Arizona Chickens

Ok folks, it is time for me to start downsizing some of these chicks!

Who still needs what? LOL!

-I have 2 Aloha pullets (they didn't carry the mottling gene

), and two Aloha X RIR cockerels who need a home. I think they are about 14 weeks?

I also have a TON of Easter chicks that need homes, but I am not sure what I have yet. It seems like I mostly hached roos, which means they are destined for the soup pot. SO, if anyone wants a fantsy-dance roo for their ladies let me know. I'll give you a super deal...

Easter Cockerels (for sure) Available:
-Mille Fleur Naked Necks (2, maybe 3--one with a fauxhawk)
-White silkie(s)
-blue silkie(s)
-Various D'Uccles
-Splash Wheaton Ameracaunas
-Mottled houdan
-possibly more Aloha chicks

Anywhoo, they are too small for eatin' right now, but as soon as someone crows, they all go. So if you ARE interested, let me know.

I LOVE that Houdan! So pretty. Anyone in Tucson want some, but can't make the drive, I will be in Casa Grande this sunday. I will take them that far. Silkies are super cute!

So I just went out with my pen and paper and REALLY watched the Easter chicks.

You know that sound a chick makes when you step on its toe? I heard that three times in a row. The third time I caught my mottled houdan trying to crow. He's 8 weeks!! Stoopid roo. Since his crow sounds like normal chick sounds, he gets a free pass until it starts sounding like a crow-crow. Oy.

Easter Hatch chicks for sale:
-1 Mottled Houdan Cockerel
-2 mottled D'uccle cockerels (get a free pullet with purchase!!)
-1 Splash wheaton cockerel
-2 MF Naked Neck cockerels (large fowl or at least big medium)
-1 MFDU X NN cross cockerel
-2 Aloha pullets (look to be banty-size throwbacks)

Older chicks for sale (14 weeks?)
-2 AlohaXRIR cockerels
-2 Aloha pullets (culls, because they are lacking the right coloring, they will be good layers and moderate brooders)
===>If someone will take all 4, to keep them together, they can HAVE all 4. I don't care if you will eat the roos later.

Finally, I need to reduce my laying flock. I have ~7 hens around a year old for sale. They are a mixed bunch, but all good layers. Some are hitting (or just finishing) their first molt. They'd make a good starter flock for a BYCer trying to sucker their friend into keeping chickens.

ETA: We eat the roos, but I want to give the DH a break. While I will a D'uccle, its a lotta work for something that was sooooo cute. I'd rather find them homes if I can.

Ok guys and gals.... I know I brought up the "coffee thing" for tomorrow morning but it looks like I can't make it after all..... My elderly parents need some assistance in the morning and you know what that means! Coffee for me will have to wait for another day. Hope you guys can all still get together and have a great visit!

. He stepped on one of my chicks. An 8 week old gold laced wyandotte pullet. I had just said watch your feet they are really friendly and will run up to you. I could tell he felt bad about it so did not say anything but GRRRRRR I hope she will make it but it looks serious.

Meg--Do you homeschool your eggs? I love how you placed that egg where it could read BYC and learn all about what chickens and eggs are supposed to be doing.

azpenguin--Congrats on the coop! And the hens that refuse to be gawked at. I hope they didn't stand for any CAT calls.

Lame, I know, but I couldn't resist.

Mandymooligan--OH NO!!! I'm so sorry. I hope she makes it!

We have been working on our latest coop today. My 12yo was having fun painting the roof. She even made friends with a lizard up there. He actually let her paint his feet. Must be the heat. Anyway, it is a little smaller than our other coops, but will be great for younger birds or bantams. The only bad thing was when I stupidly decided to jump up on the ladder to check the roof without making sure it was stable. DUH!!! I fell right off. Scraped my leg up and I think I bruised a rib.

I was just so mad at myself! Oh, well, maybe I can play the sympathy card and get the kids to spoil me tomorrow.

I picked up some hardware cloth tonight and just made a little area the chicks could run aroudn in while I am watching. They really liked getting out to that grass LOL.

Priced out layer feed at a little feed store on Nogales Hwy. today. $12.50 for a 50 lb bag. That's so cheap it could be a cliche.

Gonna see if I can get the coop finished over the long weekend. I don't know if I'll get that far, because I'm getting more and more adverse to working outdoors in triple digit temps as I get older. I'm wishing I had a compound miter saw because with one of those I could knock out another tractor pretty darn quick. Then I could get the other three birds outside and get a little more time to finish the coop. Besides, I need the brooder box... for kittens! We're bottle feeding a pair and they just turned four weeks, so we could use bigger digs for them.
