Arizona Chickens

LOL! Those were Mahonri's beautiful eggs. I wish we'd have kept Lucky, I'm only getting 3 eggs a day. This morning I got another rubber egg, didn't know it until I saw the hens running around and fighting over the membrane. Eeeuuuu. We'll have some Wheaton/BW chicks in another week or so I hope.

I'm excited for you! Soapmaking really satisfies the mad scientist in me. Last night I picked up an order that has been sitting for 3 months. I got 7 lbs meadowfoam seed oil, a pound of natural vitamin e and a whole big box of e-wax for my lotions.

I DO need another coop. It would go so well by the back wall under and between the trees. It's wasted space and I have to protect my garden, don't I?

Ah, yes...I should have known. He has beautiful eggs, and shares.

If you ever figure out what to do with your soft shell layer, please share. Our silkie does that. It drives me nuts. We keep oyster shells in there all the time now, but it doesn't help. We get one good egg about every 3 weeks. Then she only lays once or twice a week, and they are completely soft. I got one a few nights ago that the other chickens must have missed. It was perfect and whole, but VERY soft. It kind of has us worried that there will be other problems as a result in the future. She is such a sweet little girl (though not much of a looker). I hate to lose her over something like that. I will have to bring you some eggs (for eating) when we come in July. We get about 6 a day, but three of them are tiny. It takes about 3 Japanese bantam eggs to equal one regular. My friends with kids get so excited about the tiny eggs. My kids like them, too.

Fence in the garden, then give the rest of the space to your flock

She (and I don't know which she) does that sporadically...as far as I know. I worry about her getting eggbound. They have plenty of calcium. Who knows. I'd have to segregate them all until it happened again and THATS not going to happen.

I did go and pick up that wine cooler to convert into an incubator. It's in such beautiful shape I almost wish I were keeping it for wine! There you go. I've chosen chickens over fine wine. Oh snap.

Wish! No DH won't go for that. We were talking about our next house yesterday. He wants 4 bedrooms and room for a boat and I want 4 coops and a huge garden. Houston, we have a problem...

Nekton MSA is probably the best treatment for birds laying soft-shelled eggs. Adding apple cider vinegar to the water also helps.

Thanks!! I will try to order some of that. I have some AC vinegar I can put in there now.
