LOL! For pictures you will now have to ask the new owner!

You didn't take pictures first? What kind of chick mommy are you?!?

Thanks for the updates, Mikayla! You must be doing a great job with him if Blue Max is already settling in to all those new people, places, chickens, and other things. I am so glad he is working out!

Well there is a step in the wrong direction....

That's horrible! So many people have such the wrong idea about chickens! Even my brother-in-law made a comment about how I could want chickens around my kids since they carry so many diseases (the chickens, not the kids!) I had to set him straight, gently of course. And for the comment that if someone wants chickens, why don't they go buy a couple a acres somewhere. I wish it were that easy. Sure we'd love a couple of acres, but it's not going to happen right now. People are so worried about "sanitary conditions" and "being to cramped" in a back yard. Have they seen how that chicken in the grocery store was raised, or what conditions those eggs were lain under? Too bad.

A very busy one! LOL!

Shane came home from Iraq and promptly married his long distance sweetheart. They had their first date, tattoo and new piercing done and then got married in front of a JP. Then the flew back here and stayed for a few days. Busy busy!
Now is catch-up time and I swear somebody's stealing hours off every day.

So I know you are supposed to put babies with broodies at night, but when I got home I figured I'd just better get to it.

I put three with the broody Marans and 6 with the Ameraucana. The marans pullet is 6 months old but has been on two golf balls for over two weeks. The Ameraucana I hatched for Easter in 2010 so she's over a year old and had been on the next almost three weeks.

Well the Marans hen just seemed indifferent and although she acted like she cared, she had no clue what to do.
The Ameraucana took to those chicks like she'd been waiting for them forever, so attentive, finds little pieces of food and the chicks go right up to her beak and take it out of it so, I gave all nine babies to the Ameraucana... they are in the brooder I got from Laree and they just seem so happy. I took the marans and put her with some of this years Easter Hatch juvies and she's not happy BUT she is very protective of the other four chicks (how old are they Meg? Five weeks?). So we just live, learn and watch.

Pics to follow...I've really enjoyed this day off.

DS#4... who is 16, is having major surgery tomorrow. He is having his Pectus excavatum reversed by Dr. Notrika at Phoenix Children's Hospital. They tell us he'll be in the hospital anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. I just pray he'll recover quickly as school starts the 3rd week of August.

My tomatoes are still producing but one plant has started to go brown... I guess it's mid July in Phoenix! I have to water them alot every other day.

Mahonri - Hope your son has a smooth surgery and speedy recovery, no fun with kids in the hospital... and here's to better chicken luck now that they should have adjusted to the heat and broodies should be happier

I checked the eggs my 3 broodies have been sharing for 3 weeks and chucked another one. They are down to 5, but no way are they ready to hatch. I would guess maybe a week from candling if that. I have no idea what is going on out there, but these are marked now. I still need to anchor my grow-out pen after flipping over twice last week in the wind. I got all chickens out of the house (for the time being). About a month ago my little Phoenix roo get the better part of the top of his head ripped off by someone else. He is about totally feathered again, so he went in with the younger kids and turkey poults. It was time as he learned to crow in the house every time I went in the laundry room

DS#4 will be in my prayers for sure.
I can't wait to see pictures! (Especially that Icelandic).
Gotta love that Americauna!I'm all for adoption, I gave birth to none of my 4 children ;-) The chicks you took that look big to you are about 3 1/2 weeks old. I barely got them out of the 'bator when you helped me fill it again, LOL.

How soon we forget. I'm pining for September and a bunch of new fuzzy butts!
