Arizona Chickens

I'm cleaning up the back patio of all things chicken and building. Soon it'll be fit for humans again. But it won't be cool enough for people until October! Chances are I'll mess it up again before then.

Everybody have a great time today!

well, it's happened.

the not so nice neighbor has complained about the noise coming from the new wheaten marans roo i bought from Mahonri last friday. i bring him in at night and let him out in the morning, everyday. but this neighbor complains about EVERYONE in the culdesac! he had someone out here in the late spring in my backyard because he said my coop produced too many flies. my coop and run and yard were all immaculate as could be. not even any dog poo(i had just cleaned, whew!) but i am very good about that stuff. but i cannot control the roo crowing. i have had a roo before, but he didn't crow this much and he's been gone a while. so, as much as i hate to do it, the Wheaten Marans Trio i just bought from Mahonri are back up for dibs for the same price he offered $80. The hens are beautiful and I really feel they should all stay together. I don't want to just "get rid of the roo", that was never my intention in purchasing this trio. It was to breed them. I hope someone would like to come get them this weekend before I get some kind of official notice in the mail next week and be forced to do away with said roo. I am really sad and feel terrible about the entire thing. I tried the "give him a few weeks to settle in" thing, but no way, they have grandbabies in the house.

Please send me a PM if you'd like these Marans.

Tracy & Kev & anyone else interested...
The following is current from the Ideal site. All are pullets, and if not indicated, all dates are through September 7th - They've no dates later than that posted

And if you are getting meat chickens (x's & the like) wouldn't roos (bigger) be better? 'specially if they will only be around 8 weeks (pre-crowing I think)

I threw a few breeds that sounded interesting in and found a few that I thought could work. I included BYC breeds page links to them as well (Fancy chickens = cool!

(And it is kinda in my order of preferance - yeah, like I'm gonna be able to pick only six out of this list!

Buff Orpington

Barred Plymouth Rock
(Other colors & availability of Plymouth Rocks, but I've not been able to find temperament data on the other colors)
(Buffs - 8/17 8/24 & 9/7)
(Whites - 8/24 & 9/7)
(Partridge - 8/17 8/24 & 9/7)

Black Australorp 8/31 & 9/7

Ameraucana (Easter Eggers)

Salmon Faverolle 8/31 - limited availability & 9/7
(I know they are delicate but very cool looking & I thought I might try anyway)

Naked Neck 8/31 & 9/7

Ameraucana (Easter Eggers)

Golden Laced Wyandotte 8/24 8/31 & 9/7
(I'm not sure but they may not be suitable for our heat - but still cool looking & docile)

Spangled Russian Orloff BYC Russioan Orloff linkey

Welsummer BYC Wellsummer linkey

California White (leghorn) BYC Sub cat of California white linkey
*** Note found on ideal's site - "Because the Ideal 236 is such an outstanding cross, Ideal reserves the right to substitute Ideal 236 chicks for California Whites" ***
The sub cat page praised the friendly-ness of the Calif White - I do not know if the Ideal 236 will have the same personality
I did not list any of the other leghorns because they (except for the info I got from the sub breeds page) are supposed to be flighty - not pet quality

Black Sex Link

Gold Sex Link

Red Sex Link
(I'm not sure about getting sex links but have not heard anything negative about them.)

All the cool looking Polish chickens
cool.png
are straight run so I did not include them.

Brahamas look cool
cool.png
but too many feathers for us (I think)

OK - That was over an hour of research - hope it helps!

Can't start tomatoes from cuttings but they've been acting like strawberries and the long vines have been putting down roots!!!

A cat got FIVE of the nine. I let them out of the Laree brooder too soon.

LOL! The roof is cobbled together out of wire, spare doors, tarp, plywood intended for coop doors...
