Arizona Chickens

To you newbies:

and welcome to the AZ forum in BYC. Please forgive me for not keeping track of all of you and know that we are excited to have you join us!

Cluckin-crazy - Those are different looking. Interesting. I am curious to see what others think.

Do you see why I think they look Aseel-ish? They should be laying in a month or 2 so we'll see if they lay like an Aseel or if they lay like a Star... They are kinda loud though and one of them picks on my 3 month olds so I don't know how long I will want to keep them

I'm definitely interested in what everyone else thinks of them...

I dunno

They just look weird and leggy to me...my roos went though a stage like that. I am sure you don't want to hear that! My leghorn hens have the "stringy, lean and mean" look to them, and they are 3+ years old. I vote teenager awkwardness.

Well the Mystery Layer mystery continues. I had one regular white egg today and ****GASP**** one white mini-egg! Yesterday one of my OEGB hens was walking like she had a sack of flour between her legs. I discounted her because she is so young and the extra egg was regular size. Today she is still walking funny, and even let me comfort her. Poor girl looked confused and, well, violated.

I will post a pic later.

They sure don't look like black stars to me. Mine were quite ugly for awhile (at around 1-2 months of age), but never had long necks like your chickens. It's not just the necks, but the legs look strange & the red faces too.

I posted a pic in the "what breed is this" section of the forum and someone who is a judge at shows said they are DEFINITELY game birds. I should let the person know that wants to come buy them today!!

I'm' so bummed

These darn things are going to be hot wings by the end of the week, and I still don't have any layers!! My husband eats 18 eggs a week and I'm not going to get any eggs for at least another month!!

No they are definitely hens and the reason I wanted to rehome them in the first place is because they are mean to my 3 month olds. The older RIR crosses I got are not mean, so maybe it's just a game bird thing - i dunno.

Cluckin_Crazy: If you want layers right away, I think Nessa has some already raised. You can PM her or look for her ad on Craigs list. I think her BYC name is AzNessa and her CraigsList ads usually mention Deer Valley and have a lot of different chickens at different ages listed.

OK EVERYONE - My 6 Black Australorps are only giving me 1 egg a day...and not even every day. 1 is just finishing molting, 1 is heavy into molting and one could be thinking about molting, but I haven't see any proof. The other 3 have LONG finished ther molts. I used to get 5 eggs a day on average in the spring. I even put some Christmas lights on a timer for them to give them more light in their roosting house. However, the lights are very dim. Any other ideas, thoughts? I would like to have a few more eggs!
