Arizona Chickens

Quote:
Hi Gallo,

Just wanted to let you know that DH has started our mealworm project following your instructions. He picked up a container of 50 worms and so far so good. They have been munching on potato peels the last couple days and tunneling. Should I get more worms? Am excited to "make" treats for my girlies.

Just you wait! In no time they'll be considered "pets" and you'll be riddled with guilt if you actually feed any to the chickens. So then you'll be stuck with a giant tank of stupid worms, and your only hope of getting rid of them is if, by chance, someone else leaves the lid off, and a cactus wren eats all of them in a single sitting.

TT! :

Maybe I'm cold, but I didn't feel bad at all giving my young quail their first worms today. Or maybe it's just I was so busy laughing at the tug of wars that I didn't have time to feel guilt.

My piggy geckos at all the worms though! Need to get more!

I wouldn't mind helping on occasion but not all the time. I used to have a full sized dairy cow. She was a total sweetheart. I kept a calf on her so that I wasn't completely obligated to milk her twice daily. Still got a good amount of milk, until I put four calves on her.

Jeeeze got beat up when I got home from work today....

Out behind my house is a small patch of dirt and it was watered for the last 3 days in preparation....

It is an old Merry Tiller from the 70s and they just don't make them like it anymore....

Not as easy to run at 55 as it was 20 years ago for some reason and I am a hurting, but garden is ready to plant if it ever cools off a bit....

Who has the seed box these days? Is it up Wickenburg way yet

I think I'm going to name my meat chickens Ethel and Fred. That's for the white fatties. I can't name the redhead girls Lucy so how about Ursula and Iggy-Pop for the red ones? All of them.
I used to name my longhorns only if I kept them for breeders. Otherwise it was bully, black steer, gray steer, etc. Luckily, longhorns come in distinctive colors, since you do raise them for nearly two years before butchering. There's a lot of the brown steer has a boo-boo on his neck and blackie needs his vaccines.

southerndesert, I'm jealous, I wish I had enough garden space to warrant a tiller. I remember how my shoulders used to feel the next day after using one. I have now idea what became of the seed box.

TT!,
