Arizona Chickens

Well, Raccoons are not a critter I gave more than a thought to; but I suppose its a possibility as there are water sources such as the mini lakes on the golf courses etc. We are next to So Mountain so have plenty of other wildlife like javelina and the mentioned coyotes so I guess raccoons could be the culprit..Must have been a heavy one, whatever it was; the wire top was stretched down about a foot...fun clean up I have for tomorrow. I think for now I'll go with another layer, using welded wire, and then look into maybe hotwire if I can get electric out there safely. Do lights ever help deter predators? I have a hard time thinking a security light would affect a hungry, brazen coyote but if I get electric out there I can go for some spot lights/security lights too...

I'd set a Havahart for sure if I had a big enough one....hmmm, maybe one can be made out of a dog crate....

Hawks and Coyotes are the only predators I've seen here in East Central Phoenix. 36 St. & Indian School.

Coyotes are rare but because we have lots of feral chickens in the neighborhood to the south, we've had some hawks take up residence in the neighborhood.

Good morning! I was wondering if anyone out there may be interested in a Wellsummer cockeral. I bought 5 "pullets" and I have been wondering if this one might be a roo. This morning while observing them on the roost, I noticed that it was opening it''s mouth like it was crowing but no sound was coming out. I picked it off the roost to hold it and when I put it back on the roost, it kind of gave a very weak crow. I am sure it won't be long until it is a full wake the neighbors crow, and I can't have that in my neighborhood. So, if anyone wants him, PM me or email at [email protected]. A trade would be nice but not necessary. Thanks

Sam- You may want to PM ChrystalGail---she is re-creating Welbars...so she may be at the point she needs a new roo. I dunno.

Special awesome day today! I had a chick hatch yesterday, AAAAANNND I got my first green egg!

It is really pretty.

I've got three point of lay pullets that I'm selling. They were hatched August 21st, and came from My Pet Chicken. All three are healthy birds with decent personalities, but I'm going to have more chickens than space when the five chicks (help! I'm addicted) that I bought today are old enough to go out. I'm asking $20 each. They are:

1 Delaware
2 Cuckoo Marans

PM me if interested.

Happy New Year Arizona. Wow can you believe it 2010. I sure hope things go well for all.

My hope for this year is getting a hatch notice about a Bantam Sultan pullet and that I will be able to order max 3. I want to try too get a black. No black as far as I can find out, in the USA. We shall see.

Beauty of a day, I'm headed outside. Have a great day.
