Arizona Chickens

Someone probably isn't laying, or it is too early in their laying cycle to crank them out. I know when my feedstore chicks started laying, they were very, very sporadic. I am currently dealing with some chickens I got from Privetts, Nov 18 hatch. I am feeding them according to best schedule and see when they start cranking out eggs.

I did notice some some of my "hens" are growing rather prominent combs...

though. I won't expect as many eggs as I had originally anticipated...

Mahonri, I've never known anyone to have New Year's Day baby chicks until now! Congratulations on your new status as "Mahonri the New Year's Day Chick Father"! Hope all of your little brood survives!

I had some hatch NYD too...but they weren't as cute or as ***ahem*** plentiful as Mahroni's

You know, i think your right....it is too early in their development probably...I got them as chicks from the Stock Shop in the spring so that makes them what... 9 months. I think the Delawares are maybe 2 months younger....And that comb bit....one of my friends said of the RIR " oh your have a rooster" when she first saw her....but I went out after her song and found an egg... She does have a big comb though. thanks for the encouragement.

Ok this is awkward...

I've been noticing that my one layer has been pooping weird... for the most part it's right after she's laid an egg so maybe her insides are just a little messed up ( i can't imagine being in labor basically every 24 hours

I think MY insides would be pretty messed up too!! )

Anyway it's lighter in color - think baby food carrots and peas mixed together - and it's foamy/frothy with bubbles in it. She has not been exhibiting any weird behavior at all so maybe it's normal but I've never had chickens before.

Hi there. I am in Tucson (East side) and had a horrbile bobcat encounter last week which killed 3 of my 4 hens. Ms. Claus, the sole survivor, is terribly lonely and I am looking for 5 sisters that are currently laying to live with her. Does anyone know where I might be able to find some hens? Thanks so much-
Kirsten

I don't know what's available in Tucson, but in Phoenix, there are ad's on craigslist, pretty much daily for re-homing hens. . . you might want to check the Tucson craigslist.

How horrible is right!!....a bobcat....vicious.....makes me shudder...ever had that kind of thing before? Are you outside the city very far? Dont know the area that much but if I remember Tuscon looks rural in a lot of areas.
