WOW! I'm only getting one per day becuase I have a bunch of free loading lazies!! That's amazing that she's cranking out 2 per day!

This is the about the 3rd time I've gotten 5 eggs in one day from the 4 girls. . . I think it's a little freaky! They sure have not slowed down on the laying this winter. . .

Does anyone have or know someone who has a viola they need to sell? I am having 0 luck with craigslist, ebay, etc., and it may be an emergency soon....

Somehow, I got conscripted into joining the band at my work. I can't say no, since my two immediate bosses are in the band---and I was teasing them for not having any female members. (I know, I know. Me and my dumb mouth) I did convince them making me sing "Black Velvet" was a reeeeeeaaaaalllly bad idea.

They are performing in the beginning of April---I have a violin, but have sausage-finger man hands, and am a much better violist.

Anyone? I'd love to buy a used instrument from a school, if possible.

Don't have a viola, but I would suggest checking out pawn shops in your area. . . a got a really terrific fiddle (well, terrific for the price, anyway, handmade german, etc.) at a pawn shop a couple of years ago. I did try out a bunch before I found one I liked, didn't even consider one that was not immediatly playable, but with the current economy, I expect this is a great time to get a good deal on instruments at pawn shops.

Okay Life it totally settling down for us again. We are ready to start up our chickens again.

We are going to start working on a new coop next weekend. So....how about some of you posting pictures of Arizona type coops that are best for our extreme heat. Hubby wants to build some of the very cute coops that he has seen and researched but I am telling him they are two enclosed for our weather and he will be wasting time and money. So...I need ammo to fight him on this...LOL...Not really fighting, but have some real heated discussions.

I have not seen many open coops on the BYC coop area. We live in an HOA, we have a variance for Chickens and we want a coop that will look pleasing. For those who live in an HOA...the best thing to do is to do your homework, and present a proposal to your HOA asking for a variance. Our was actually very easy and we were surprised what just asking will do! The fact that hens (no Roos allowed) are much quieter than barking dogs (and we have several of those in the "hood") really was a factor. Then we told them we were going to put DE in the food and this would keep down flies and poo stink...all this helped with our board making the decision to allow us to have hens. We asked for a limit of 5 -6.

Of course our neighbhood is small, and most of the Board memebers are friends of ours,...LOL.. 85 custom homes in a gated community, so it might be harder in a large development. We also attached the Gilbert Ordinance so they could see what Gilbert's requirements are.

It never hurts to right up the proposal and see what happens....or....you can try flying under the radar....

I will be having an open air (covered) coop built this winter, too, and would appreciate suggestions and pic as well. I do very much like the one at Western Ranchman in North Phoenix, mine will need to be smaller of course, and build so that the house encloses 2 sides, block fence on west side, and open to the south, but with a roof, that should be fine. Ideas and suggestions appreciated.

I have a 3 sided one with the run attaching to it. I can show you pics when I get home to take them. I'm upgrading though - I will be working this weekend on a design using all junk wood pallets. I'm pretty into sustainability and repurposing items. I will get you pics as soon as I can

Mine is open-air, see my page. I really like the chick brooder at the Western Ranchman, but was not a fan of their bigger pen. I seem to remember it was much too low to the ground. There is NO WAY I would be able to rake it out. I LOVE the metal brooder West Ran uses, and we happened to find a stainless steel island stove hood at a garage sale for $8. Enjaytoo came over and the first thig she said was, "oh a brooder?"

So sorry for your loss. Wow. How horrible that your little ones say the whole thing. That is scary indeed. My dad was up this week and I showed him your post. He lives on the West side of Tucson. I guess someone on that side sees a bobcat from time to time too. I hope you can find some hens and get back up and running soon....and keep those kids safe! (Of course you will, but wow, how scary for them.)
