Arizona Chickens

Does anyone in Arizona sell silkie or serama hatching eggs?

I would like to buy some good quality silkie eggs but do not want to have them shipped from across the country.

I feel like that picture needs a disclaimer. No chickens were actually dried in the dryer, don't try this at home, professional stunt chickens only, etc.

Why not ship? I had eggs shipped from Georgia, and they almost all started to develop. The broody hen let most of them get cold, so only a few hatched, but they did develop up until that point.

from what I am reading the silkie eggs are a little more delicate so I think less distance would be better. I do have a bator full of shipped eggs from Arkansas right now.

For the most part, chickens LOVE warm baths.

A guy at the feed store said not to get the chicks wet - or they'll die!

I guess that goes away when they get older...

Cold wet rain and mud--chicks die. Warm bath and heat lamp or blow dry and they are fine.

Hey...I have a new Serama pullet named Houdini. Maybe she can be a part of the stunt team??
lol.png

She escapes from any enclosure we put her in...and likes to roost in bushes. Every night it's a fun game of find the chicken. She grumbles and complains at me when I pick her up (you know...she has to make it look good), but instantly settles into my hand and starts purring....I have to practically scrape her off in the coop

And on the subject of dryer sheet Silkies, my two Serama/Silkie mixes are getting so big! They still are inside
hide.gif
and cry like they're being tortured when they hear my voice until I get them out for their nightly cuddle sessions. They are so sweet and actually affectionate!

I think my DH is ready to have them be outside, but I would miss my little cuddly fluff balls

Maybe he'll forget they're in here??

Well Tammy has NOT forgotten the chickies are in here. she was chortling that tomorrow night they will never be in the house again.

My mom told her an old Yiddish saying:

Man makes plans, God laughs.

Mine come in the house if we leave the door open. We've had to chase them out numerous times. I sometimes bring one in myself if I see a cricket. Maybe that's why they keep coming in. They think the house is full of jumping chicken treats.

How are you judging the sex of your PRs? Sometimes there is just one that matures faster and I "panic" and think "roo".
Here are my PRs, it's kind of hard to see the wattles in the picture

and the GSLs

I am now confused also. The one that I thought was a PR (really hand tame and a sweetie and named!) looks almost solid red now, and the others look ratty like yours Becky and Tracy. NO FAIR - I'm already attached to One Dot!

Please tell me this is a Production Red (One Dot)

And please tell me this is a Red Broiler...

Sorry about the image quality - me thinks it got painted tonight.

Mikey,
If I had to guess, I'd say the top one is the PR. Yours has more feathers on the head than mine, but the coloring and other feathering is the same. I don't think my PRs look ratty any more, really. Maybe it's the GSL(gold sex link) you were noticing?
I also see some wattle on yours so maybe mine isn't a roo.

(Or maybe yours is and so is mine)
