Drum roll please........................................................
DONE!
(well, mostly)
Got the roof on, flashed and trimmed! Yay!
Chickens are in the coop!
I think the only one more pleased than I is Tammy!
Just have to clean up this mess!
Peepers established!
I'm leaving the brooder in for now. Just for chickies mental security blanket. That and it holds the food and water.
Wild birds can still get in - in between the roof, joists and the top plate. I'm looking for ideas but I'm leaning towards cutting some of the wire mesh a tad bit oversized and wedging it in.
I still have to do some of the finish work. The area above the coop itself has this for ventilation,
I'm going to cut a piece and hinge it downwards (so it can flip up) and bolt into place to minimize heat loss in the winter.
I still need to fab a waterer (I'm going with a 3 nipple homer bucket for now), a treadle feeder, roosts, and get bedding and sand for the run.
I'm planning on putting a board between the run and coop to seperate the sand from the bedding.
Has anyone any experience with the "
New" pressure treated lumber? It is brown (no longer green) and the gal at Homer says it is non toxic (sure, non-toxic poison) and you can use it in raised bed gardens and chicken coops. This will be the only wood with ground contact so I was considering it.
All of you helped me with this! Thanks again everyone for your ideas and encouragement!
