Arizona Chickens

Thanks for the link. I really liked that article. Chickens could eventually make all of us healthier!

I have a NH pullet, but she hasn't started to lay yet... I suppose I could hatch out some TJ eggs to get a roo and put him over her...

I'm just so scared about someone turning me in.

Today, I got two of the most GORGEOUS blue (unfertile) ameraucana eggs. I so wish I would have kept the younger splash roo that I gave to Boston. I do have a little blue wheaten roo but he is only pet quality and I'll have to take him for a drive once he starts to crow.

I'm getting the hatching bug again, but I just don't have room to hatch anymore, unless it's less than 6 (I could use my fancy Laree brooder for that). ... still going through withdrawal.

ca... once your fancy chickens start laying.. I'd love to hatch a few and see how long I could get by with a roo and say goodbye to most of the rest of my flock.

i still have the blue wheaten rooster you gave me
if you need him for breeding i can take him
to your house, you can have him back if you need
him, also if you know if anyone is interested
i have lavender ameraucanas and lavender split
they are from john blehm and harry shaffer
lavender blood lines

Just curious, is there a reason to order from ebay? I thought you could pick them up at a pet food store. Are they worse quality or just a lot cheaper?

I got mine at petco. I just got two small containers, dumped them in and now, a few months later, we can't keep up with the mealworms. There seem to be a lot of beetles in ours right now which probably means we'll have an explosion of worms pretty soon.

Thanks, it just sounds a little too easy and fairly inexpensive for some good protein for the chickens.

Do you keep yours indoors or strictly outside, even in the summer?

I wonder if that analogy has anything to do with your screen name? Hmmm...

Congrats!

Relax. They don't look anything like me. At least that you can prove.

And the third egg has pipped. Coolness.

I've kept them outside on the back porch all summer. They like the heat (with shade). I'm planning to move them to the garage for the winter so they don't freeze.
They have a distinctive smell that I don't like to have in the house but they would do better there in the winter. I think they slow down a lot in the cold.

I think they were way cheaper. The place we usually go to (Wild Side Pets) has them for $3 per hundred. We got 1000 for $12.50.

Now I just have to find bran. Tammy raised them in her science class and sifted the raisens out of raisen bran for them.
