Depends on the state as to whether it is illegal or not. Have no idea about Indiana; hopefully not, and there may be differences between dying chicks and dying adult birds. Definitely not illegal in Arizona at any age.

The blue gene is incompletely dominant, meaning that a bird with one copy of blue expresses intermediately between one that has no copies and one that has twop copies. A bird with no copies (bl+/bl+) is black (in reality it is not-blue); one with two copies is splash (Bl/Bl), one with one copy of blue and one of not-blue (Bl/bl+) is blue. The blue bird at the front of the row of skittles silkies is dyed; that is not a naturally coloured blue

I'm trying to get birds washed for Farmington, and IDing those that are keepers versus sale birds. Some day my life will be organized--at least I keep saying that...for years now!

i can not travel with my dad because he gets dialysis
so we cant travel far anymore unless we go with family
or friends, i talk to the person for the tucson show
there is still room but still have to see if there is anyone
that i can go with because i dont have a ride to go to
the tucson show, again congratulations you are
lucky to be able to go to the indiana show

I wish...a friend sent the photo of the green one with red crest and tail. The others were posted in various other places. There are several folks going to Tucson. I have committments here, so I will be down there to drop off birds and visit for awhile, then someone else is bringing them home for me. It's a fair trade as I'm taking his birds to Farmington.

At 4-5 weeks, they will need heat at this time of year--heck, even I put jacket on if I'm going out at night. I have babies who are a couple of weeks old on the back porch with a heat lamp; I have a couple who are a bit older than yours with their mama, and they don't seem to snuggle under her as much as they did just a couple of weeks ago. If you open out their wings, you will see that they still have lots of feathers to grow. At 4-5 weeks, the only way to determine gender is DNA testing. Silkies tend to matue more slowly than many other breeds, so don't expect crowing any earlier than 3-4 months, and it is really more likely at 5-8 months. Although I had one boy who was a good 10 months old when he suddenly went from looking like a demure sweet pullet into a raunchy, crowing cockerel.

Bob's Henhouse :

Mikey, what part of the world are you in? I'm out in Wittmann, but come into Phx at least every other day. I'd be interested in buying some of your excess bran, plus I have a used Ice maker if you want to play with your egg turner idea. No guarantees that it works, it was in an old fridge in storage. Also, I have a piece of a meat grinder I thought your students could try welding, it's non ferrous, aluminum I believe. It don't desperately need it so if it gets fixed great, if not, eh.

To all the new faces, and former lurkers.

Weeeelllllll...

Like Pastry says, I'm in Timbucktoo...

A little county island between Mesa and Apache Junction we like to call Limbo Arizona.

I'd be happy to attempt fixing your meat grinder (note oprative word, attempt).

How far east do you come? I'm at MCC at Dobson and the 60 - 2x a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 o 10.

I think the teacher quit on me. I guess I was just too advanced for her skill level. I hope I didn't make her feel too ashamed... It isn't my fault that I'm just naturally better than everyone.

You're the best!

Had to go buy feed today. Everything seemed to be in order and much better. I did get your email and was heartbroken for them. Was that your polish cross in there?
