Mahonri,
here is your booted fella (at least I think it's a cockerel):

And then this guy who was dancing on the bar for 10 minutes. It's about 10 inches off the ground but it looked like he was afraid to jump

Nice photos and thank you for sharing.... Do you have plans for the snappy nest box, I like it!

There is a thread here on the forum where I stole the plans from. Except those unload in the back into another room. I had to have the collector in the front. And the novelty is the use of gutters from homer to make it lighter (and cheaper?).

Here is the link to the thread:

And I could make some notes (next weekend) about how I modified the plans. Actually I probably should anyway. Just in case I need to build another one.
Now Mikey is not going to like this but no welders were used in the process of making the nest boxes but I did take a hammer to the gutters because the breaks were in the wrong place

Anybody ordering from Sandhill next spring? I "need" about 8-12 chicks but REALLY can't go 24. They only sell in multiples of 24.
I am after some more BBR cubalayas and black ameraucanas. Sandhill's are pretty decent.
If anybody knows of a source (for eggs of those breeds) otherwise that would be great also!

Just curious - how have your chickens been laying lately? My friend Kathleen reports few to no eggs, and same story over here. Was it just the extreme heat this August? Wondering if anyone else has had a drop in productivity this fall?

Well I missed calculated and my eggs are 24 days now. I lost them all!

I craked them open. One was just a mess. The other it looked like the chicky lived for about 2 weeks and died. My poor little fuzzy butts!
I have only hopes now that Cotton is able to hatched her eggs. Does one bother the hen to candle the eggs or should they by left alone? I hope it not to late to order some silky chicks. I NEED some babies to love!
