I came across a bunch of closet rod brackets that were designed to mount on the wall and on a board against the wall. I had to take them apart and re-align them so they could mount against a regular wall with no board. Hence the welding.

I've got several more and figure on making a bit of a jungle gym in the coop for the chickies.​

Hi all,

I have a chickie question, and haven't seen any answers in the emergency, etc section (I searched, but didn't post...):

this past Thursday my DH noticed one of our duckwing OEGB chicks (2.5 weeks old) sitting on her belly on the metal 'shade' of the heat lamp. He had no idea how long she had been there - she'd jumped out of the brooder and up onto the lamp. He ran over and picked her up, said that she seemed hot and a little stunned but didn't notice any burns on her feet and or the fluff on her belly, etc. There are 4 other duckwings (and 2 red pyles, 3 self blues) and once he put her back with all of the others he couldn't tell her apart. They all seem to eat& drink, poop well, etc

So when I heard the heat lamp story after I got home I was horrified (it gets so hot!) and pulled out all of the duckwings to see if I could see anything....nada.

So then following evening/Friday we got the chicks out for cuddle session like we normally do and one of the duckwings kept wandering away from the group to sit by herself (we are starting to call her Dora). She seems a little less rambunctious and maybe walks a little slower/with less agility when compared to the others but still walks around, eats, etc. It's almost like she just wants a break from the other little spazz monkeys.

Tonight she did the same thing as far as wandering away from the other chicks. I don't know for sure that she is the chick that was on the lamp, but I guess what I'm wondering is if you think she could have some lasting nerve or muscle damage from the heat (if it was her) ?

Has anyone had something similar happen with a heat lamp? Maybe she's just a loner?? She seems to prefer to sit alone on my DH rather than on me with her 9 other brooder mates

so i had my brownie troop over last night for some badge work and a sleepover. we are trying to get them ready for camping in april. my co-leader is out of town(again) so another mom came to help me out with the plethera of 10 children. i am supposed to do 3 sleepovers including one backyard tent overnighter with them before we can go camping. now some of these second graders, last night was their FIRST sleepover EVER! my twins have been having them since they were 4! so we had some issues last night incuding splinters, a fat lip with a mouth full of blood(that kid was mine), asthma attack about 10:30pm, stab to the thigh by way of coffee table around 11pm and then began the mayhem. at midnight, some were asleep and some were scampering around eating ice, took twin B to bed with me and yelled at everyone to go to sleep. at 1am, my bedroom door popped open and someone took my beagle. i find at least 3 girls playing with my sleepy dog in the middle of sound asleep girls. i tok my dog, yelled again and locked my door. i think they finally passed out about 2am and they are still asleep, well, most are. i had the pleasure of waking at 5:30, darn internal clock.

so, am i taking this rowdy bunch camping in april?

not likely. i know they were excited, but holy smokes. i think they need another year or 2 still. OR, their parent must accompany us or they can't go. i am going to have a killer migraine today from less than 4 hours sleep.

why am i the troop leader again? oh yeah, cuz i love it, most days. who wants to pre-order cookies

pastrymama, your sleepover story just brought back memories of when my DW was a Brownie/GS troop leader.

It sounds like your troop is right on schedule. Hopefully, when it comes time for the camping trip you'll have lots of parents there to help.

pdx2phx, I have to agree with pastrymama, those things are so hot I think you'd see some evidence on the feathers if she were there too long. I hope she's o.k.

tball chicky, I wouldn't cull if they aren't showing symptoms. I think Marek's is so prevalent that doing so would probably be counter-productive. However, I also wouldn't mix the two groups either.

Mikey D, I'm no expert, but One-dot looks like a pullet to me.
