I have a cowboy rooster. Yesterday I was hanging around the area where I keep the little ones and I heard a tiny "jeeha!" After a while it repeated and I finally realized it was my Ancona

. I was about crying it was so funny. Unfortunately he only attempted to peck my video camera when I got back to get proof of the silly crowing. He must have been taking foreign language classes

.

Funny! My son says he (roo) has been practicing for several days now (his window is right next to the coop) and it sounds pathetic.

Joe and I almost fell over with tears in our eyes when our two banty Roos were first practicing. They sounded a lot like that video of the Silky/Serama crosses. Squeaky little croaks that you couldn't hear unless you were standing right by them.

Meg pointed out the street on which you live when we did the Tour.

I suggested stopping by to say Hi, but she said that would be creepy.

No Worries. I'm a bit stressed out about this and life in general at the moment. I really want to keep him and work it out, but just got my hours cut back to 25 from 40, so not even sure if I can feed myself. Also was starting new biz part time teaching art in schools and out of my home studio, now thats on hold while I find more hours of survival job. Meanwhile I barely have time to see my girls anymore and when I do its all about Big Roo.

Am thinking I will borrow my friends big wire fence kennel and put him and his 4 standard girls in there and see how he comes to treat them. If he nice to them we will cope as I also make hair pieces and jewelry from my chicken feathers. He will never have acces to anyone but me and anyone coming to take him away for any reason.

Sorry if I sounded defensive, I probably was as I hate to have to give him up, he really is a beeeeuty!

I really appreciate your concern and response!!!

So, I'm in and out tonight, getting the grill ready for bratwursts (to be served on homemade buns and sauerkraut

) when I hear an owl. Right there on top of the utility pole in my back yard was the unmistakable silhouette of a GHO! Then I hear another calling back to it from the other end of the block. Wildlife in the city.

Hey Dar! You should contact Bargain for WMs. I just had an amazing hatch with her eggs. She sent me 12. I dropped one when weighing before setting. 11 went into the incubator, one never developed and 10 popped out unbelievably healthy. I am not a Marans expert, but they look true to standard....fluffy golden balls with feathered shanks.

AND I went to visit Rocky a few weeks ago. He looks a little scrawny, but was molting. He has 2.5 acres to free range during the day with his flock of 5 ladies and a secure coop for nights. I will load some pics for you.

Here is a pic of the Wheaten Marans chicks...2 weeks old now.

Gorgeous photos! Very striking contrast between the royal blue background and hte brilliant yellow chicks! How did you EVER get them to all stay still long enough to snap the picture?

They would not hold still!! I was trying to get a picture with all 10 WM heads showing to send to Bargain....no luck. The blue is my bath robe that went immediately into the laundry afterwards.

Thank you all so much for the tour pictures!! I really really wanted to go this year, but have been sick and feeling wimpy for almost a month. Just didn't have the energy. Next year for sure!!

Mikey, don't you just love the new crowers!! Out of the 16 chicks in my guest room, 2 are crowing. 2 cockerels are about 7 weeks old and started making pathetic noises a few weeks ago....way too cute!! There are good pics of fertile eggs on BYC, maybe a sticky in the hatching section.

Dar- thanks for the chicken offer, but right now I am stretching the limits....16 in the house and 40+ in various coops out back. It's time to do a shuffle again, but not sure how to manage the Roos. Thinking a bachelor pen is the way to go. If I gather up my extra roos and throw them in a pen/coop together, will they kill each other?? There is one that needs to fatten up for dinner, and 2 that I am hanging on to for possible breeding this spring. Mahonri, or anyone have info on managing a bachelor pen??

So many pages to catch up on.

Ummmm, Mikey--since we were not on the proper cross street we weren't all that close. If we HAD been really close, that would have been ME being stooopid. Did I ever mention I had a long term relationship with a former chief detective who was major-league obsessed with security? It rubbed off a little.

You said that street - I bobbed my head up and down making stoopid noises.

I'm tactless and too trusting for my own good.

All she would have had to do was give me a ring. I think she has my cell number. I could have given you the coop tour in my back yard.
