We also could use the ghetto bird as a clock. It would circle every night at 9 and 11 and of coarse the multiple times there are problems. We just figured they were predicting something was going to happen at the park or the apts and were right most of the time. Back when we could get the police calls on the scanner we would just sit outside and watch all the emergency people rush up and down the streets to all the various calls. Cheap entertainment I know but hey I'm CHEAP!

I live SW of Falcon Field so the ghetto bird flight path is over my house as it heads to downtown/west Mesa. Oh, and we have the usual 3X a day circling at Frys on Greenfield and Main. During the winter the snowbirds cause about 3 wrecks a day there, 5-6 wrecks if it's senior discount day.

We live NE of Falcon field right on the path of planes taking off. Its lovely, plus we have Boeing down the street who fly by to the superstitions to test. Whats up with all the Ghetto birds, I swear its like they are just flying around peeping in peoples yards.

no, you didn't miss anything. i just didn't say what was going on. i was in the yard yesterday and a buttercup walked passed me and i smelled something AWFUL. i quickly grabbed her and smelled her and knew. coryza. she had discharge pouring out her nostrils. i threw her in the quarrantine pen and quickly began checking all the others. as of yesterday, i had 4 buttercups in isolation waiting for well, you know, then today i rechecked and rechecked and in went 3 of my bw ameraucanas. i went to pick up the kids from school while the fireman put them all down

now begins the clean up and hope that it has not spread any further. i went from 21 hens to 14 hens in 30 minutes.

Oh no!
And you think it was the sparrows that brought it in?

I've gotta get working on that treadle feeder!

i KNOW it was those little birds that brought it in. i haven't had any new birds since summer, except 3 little silkie chicks from SS, but they are in their own quarrantine area away from everyone else. i wear different shoes to the feed store, different shoes in my yard that STAY in my yard only, different shoes to someone's house that has hens, and so forth. i have bird netting over the entire run, but they can still get in through the tiniest crack. i just can't believe it

Maybe that is the trick...

Stop using feed & clean out the fridge!

*** Yeah, I edit my posts. What of it? ***

Yep, 11 again today. I guess they love all the weeds and kitchen scraps. We do eat pretty healthy so it's not like they're getting potato chips and I did plant mustard greens/rye grass for them so they're getting a five gallon bucket of greens everyday. I do need to throw down some more mustard and maybe some kale, nastaturiums this weekend for them in my empty spots. Pull up the dead okra, finally.
My one Hamburger has decided she wants to live in the garden. I can't figure out where she lays her eggs but she's hangin out with the little silkies. She's such a shy thing. I guess it makes her happy. Wish she'd stop digging up my newly planted garlic while she takes dust bathes, though.

I'm pretty sure I have two silky Roos and one hen. Anybody want a darling little blue silky roo, if and when I can ever tell the difference?

No, I havent tried that, but I will. The vet said if it is internal laying, it might resolve on its own. Ascities would be due a heart problem. How do you feed a "probiotic solution"? And how much cider vinegar in the water? She eats and drinks just like normal. And what does oregano oil do? Thanks in advance!

Oregano oil is antibacterial. I'd probably use I as a topical but I'm not sure. We use it for ear infections in dogs, sore throats in people. A little goes a really long way.
Organic apple cider vinegar and homemade kefir ( I can give you kefir grains if you need) are your best bets for probiotics. Or, kombucha. I'd love to find some kombucha scoby, don't have that, yet. Just greed her the kefir, ACV you can put in water.
You can even give her a little bit of the kefir grains straight if you have enough to spare. Or the kombucha scoby.
The probiotics can help her body fight infection, the good bugs fight the bad bugs, it really does work, even when other medicines can't sometimes.
