Arizona Chickens

Thanks Petra. She will be missed as she was the only one who would jump on my shoulder. She is up at Rainbow Bridge with Lucy my CM.

Hubby wants me to get more BW Ameracauna's. When I am ready, I would like a couple of them, an Olive Egger and a French or Black Copper Marans.

My vet called tonight and he is pretty sure it was Merecks even though she didn't display all the outward signs. She had 1 egg in her tube which he says stopped as she was stressed but it never made it to get a shell. She also had 4 yolks ready to go as well. She stopped laying on the 5th as she laid every other day. I just need the written report as I cannot remember all that he said. My mind wasn't all there tonight.

My daughter told me tonight that she heard Amelia thrashing in the crate. Lauren got her out and held her and tried to calm her but she died in her arms. Lauren felt very badly that this happened. But we both agree that someone was holding her as she passed and she wasn't alone.

Has anyone heard from TT! Is she at Guatamo Hay!!..Lockup for Chicken People! I was just wondering if we need to start a campaign.

Also...1st 4H meeting tonight. I brougt a runt sillki, some seramas, and a banty cochin. They all really like them. I just found out from the feed store girl that was at the meeting, that me and all the kids in my poultry club can now get a discount on feed! BONUS!! I am so excited about that. I had a few adults that wanted some seramas. I had the the kids with me of course. They love how the serama hen would just let my 2 year old carry her all around and not even try to escape or make a sound. I had a frizzle there and of course girls think that is really, really cool. I should see in a couple of week how many signed up. I have to go to 2 more meeting of 4H groups in the area later this month. I am shooting for chicken domination.

Very cool - glad it went well. Make sure it is OK with the parents but it would be cool to see some picts of you working with the kids & chickens

Memphis: Boston Bryce in Heber, AZ has all my old FBCM flock and I'm certain he'd be happy to sell you hatching eggs.
I just hatched out some of his eggs and the chicks are all wonderful.

He also has Icelandics. While Icelandics are not a 'standardized' breed, they are wonderful layers and because they are a "land-race" fowl, they are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get until you hatch them.

He also has a decent BW roo and will soon have some pullets so he may have some good Ameraucana stock for you to buy within a year or so.

Yes Memphis, as Mahonri has said I will sell hatching eggs. (cheap too, since its for 4H) Not sure when you would want them, but just let me know so I can start saving them, and plan on bringing them down to the valley when the time is right. I hatched 14 Icelandics and about 8 FBCMs for NYD hatch. High fertility rate. Anyway just let me know.. I'm here to help!

The funniest thing was before the 4h meeting the 4 year old had a preschool meeting so I had to bring the chickens with me. So the teacher asked if i would show the 6 kids (3-5 years old) the chickens. They were in awe just looking at them from the dog crate and them when I took them out you would have thought it was christmas. They all wanted to hold them. So I took one out and let them hold them with the 2 aids helping. I had about 4 out at once until 2 of the kids lett them go and they chickens saw there chance for freedom! One little girl was screaming at the top of her lungs!!! It was so funny. By some miracle no one was pooped on...including the floor. They did take some pictures there so I will have to get them and post them.

The not so funny thing was my speeding ticket here on the way home! We don't have the option of traffic school. Lesson learned...set cruise control.
