Arizona Chickens

Too bad they only have mash. It seems like there is much less waste with pellets. They have their scratch listed at 14% protein. That sounds really high for scratch!! Not sure what I will order yet. It all sounds great. For sure I will try the nonsoy layer mash, some BOSS and scratch. The alfalfa pellets are probably huge horse pellets?? I hate soaking pellets for my chooks. Guess I had better get some chick feed too.

Last night was our second night with the chicks and our new adventure. The girls were so excited when they got home from their sleep over, as they didn't know I was getting the chicks Saturday after they had left. I laid on the couch and the girls brought me over 3 then 4 chicks. 3 of the girls napped on a paper towel laid on my chest and one wanted up in my hair. I didn't want chicken pooh in my hair so I kept moving her to the paper towel and she didn't want any part of it. This little girl is pretty bossy while watching them in the kennel and I am thinking she may be the queen hen as the get older. I just love sitting and watching them sleep, scratch, peck. Tooooo darn cute. My girls love them.

Thanks to Mikey D, I will have a few white layers to add to my 8. I had originally planned for 4 but decided on 10. I'd like to supply eggs to a few friends and family to help cover some cost of raising the birds. We also go through a lot of eggs between the 4 of us.

I posted pictures on my profile...here's one.

I am trying this conditioning experiment to modify my chick hording behaviors. I have (11) 7 week old chicks in my guest room. Everytime I see an adorable pic like this and the cuddly chick need hits.....I run into the guest room and take a deep breath and make myself focus on the layer of dust covering every inch of the room.

I will let you other addicts know how it works out.

Gallo - is the cooler that is the reservoir part of your waterer removable & do you find you have to clean it periodically?

Totally removable. I thought I'd need to clean it, but I've only taken it apart once in two years. It stays very clean inside. I probably wont ever take it apart again unless I somehow get dirt in there. I do put frozen milk jugs of water inside on the really hot days. I'm not sure how much it helps and it's a way dirt can enter the reservoir.

had to cancel the order I had made today for some rare and exotic breeds. Looks like I'll be downsizing again.

My roos been dead for two weeks and the neighbor called to complain about the crowing rooster. My wife told him she didn't know where it was but that it wasn't on our property.

I'm just about done.......

hey would anyone here be interested in maybe getting together & do a food swap??? I was thinking if we have some fresh grown veggies, fruit, fish, milk, meat, etc. maybe we could trade each other something for what we/they need. Like say I am looking for some fresh milk and I can trade some veggies and such... Each party could come to terms on the conditions of what to trade. I know a lot of us don't have the money to buy wholesome fresh food, but maybe we could help each other out and trade?!

I am starting up an aquaponics system to grow all year around of fruit, veggies, tilapia & prawns..

This could be an awesome thing.. Any ideas? Thoughts?

Pierogies?? Homemade or box??? My gma took her recipe to the grave with her.

Very home-made. We cranked out the filling (18 lbs) & the dough (9 batches) last night and 30 dozen today.

We have fix'ns for another gross or so but I had a 4:30 Dentist appt.

I'll have to get permission before I share the recipe...

I put ACV in mine (Homer bucket) and when replumbing the float found it to be hideously dirty.

The feed I got wasn't pellitized & then reground like the Kruse.

It was just ground and you can easily see the bit of grain in it.
