Arizona Chickens

Hey Mikey, trees are a lot easier then plants in my opinion, at least once there established. I've only killed one so far and it was in the way of the coop anyway.

I agree!

I had a wonderful peach tree but a peach bore got to it and it died. It was producing 100s of lbs of peaches every year (3rd week of May) before it's demise. I also had four different varieties of apples (June apples) but the bugs got them too... same with the Asian Apple/Pear. All I have left is an ornamental orange. (worthless) and a yellow grapefruit. I eat it but it's sour.

Malathion should be sprayed every March and September for trees that produce pits. (peaches, cherries, apricots, nectarines etc...). (I ran an orchard in Utah as a kid) I just got lazy one year and didn't get it sprayed like I should have..

Kevin, good luck with the hatch... I have 26 in the bator right now for my Ground Hog's Day hatch I'll be locking down Sunday evening and putting the eggs in modified cartons for hatching in my Brinsea Octogon..

I've done a LOT of hatches and I've found that here in AZ, we can do well with dry hatches.

Days 1-18, I keep the humidity right around 30%
Day's 19-Hatch I up it dramatically to 70%.

Last hatch I got 18 of 19 that remained at lockdown.

Have a fantastic weekend y'all...

sometime tomorrow I'll post a pic of my almost featherless Icelandic chick. Real weird looking!

OK folks, lets think happy thoughts...

Thanks Becky.

Here are the first two, slightly different shades...no dots

Second two - occasional dot - one on the top of each head & a few elsewhere...side view

Head shot - you are looking at the top of her head in the front middle of the picture - her beak is down

Gold sex links or Ideal #XXX's?

I'd rather not give itsredcandy the wrong peepers tomorrow.

Mikey,
Sorry about the little guys. I've never had one die that I ordered from Ideal. You should call them, maybe they'll replace them.

It looks like you have them separated already. The 2 in the top picture look like GSLs ad the ones in the other pictures look like 236s. I'm a little worried about your lighter GSL with stripes. My GSL that turned out to be a rooster looked like that. From what I read on BYC, if they are that light your chance is about 50/50 that you have a rooster. Keep the pictures coming of that one. I think I'll be able to tell pretty early what you have when the feathers start coming in.

I'm jealous of all of you getting fruit trees. I try to convince my husband that we should plant fruit trees but he isn't interested. Since I can't dig the holes...
He did help me get my garden ready and the coops built, though, so I'm not complaining (much)

Tried to order the Rare Breed Pullet special from Ideal, but it wouldn't let me...... Probably saved me from trouble.....

Where did you get your chicks? Are the Wyandottes blue or blue laced reds? Am waiting patiently for the 10th and 15th to come as the feed store by me will have Silver Laced Wyandottes and Easter Eggers.

I got them at Ace Hardware on Power and Chandler Heights. They said they were blue wyandottes, but didn't say if they were blue laced or not.
