Arizona Chickens

I spent all day in the yard working on the coop. About 10 minutes in, my super docile but somewhat needy German shepherd realized she could paw open the door to the chicken run. In came my wild beast dog to have some chicky tartar! In the process of tackling him and the GSD, I managed to RIP OFF THE DOOR TO MY COOP. I had no idea it was so flimsy--So much for re-purposed wood! In the end, I nearly rebuilt the thing--Cut back to the roof, rebuilt the door out of sturdier lumber, put the hinges on a better side, Reinforced the run with both shade cloth for a visual block and 1/2 inch hardware cloth for a more robust physical blockade, and added a sunshade over the whole thing.

Magically, no little peepers where harmed in any of this! I think the coop and run might just be dog proof now!

I think it is a really big deal. I know several people that are coming from out of state to show birds. I am excited for the serama table top show. I think that our very awesome "nurseshelly" maybe entering the gorgeous Phyllis. It should be fun!

Thanks Granny, Ice, Nova & Pima - we're going to be thinking happy thoughts from now on!

Here's some picts of the chickies!

Appenzeller Spitzen-peepers!

Big wing feathers. They are supposed to be great fliers...

Welsummer peeper - outrageously cute with those giant chipmunk stripes

& you guys already saw the Golden sex links!

Peepers again!

Clara is beautiful!

I think the hair-do is from the sugar water. I mixed it according to the literature Ideal sent with the fuzzy butts & it made everything sticky.

The peepers stick their heads into the watering dish and the top of the hole styles their hair for them!
