Arizona Chickens

Live in Tempe, no chickens allowed. Can't change the laws, so have bought property on the mountain where there are no darn home owners associations, freedom, will raise my birds there when I retire in a couple of years.
People can raise 15 dogs in their house, cats to, but that's ok, a dog can bark all day and night, but let me roo crow just once for a second and here comes da law.

No, but I am about to... today or tomorrow. They have a pretty extensive list of chicks available. Where do you live? You can get in on my order if you want... shipping is $35 so we can split that if you're interested.

Here is the list of chicks that they have available http://www.mypetchicken.com/Day_Old_Baby_Chicks-c36.aspx

And
here is a tool that they have where you can find what kind of chickens are best suited to your needs

Let me know!!!

I'm in the north part of the valley. Dang $35 for shipping is expensive. Murry McMurry is only $14. Maybe you should get on my order

hmm... i will check out their website tonight. when are you ordering?

Okay, here is the deal. I stopped by the Feedlot today to inquire about chicks - just to check out my options. It appears that chicks are in great demand this season - the Feedlot is several weeks behind in receiving their orders because the hatchery simply does not have chicks available. Knowing this I then immediatly came home and jumped on the McMurry website to see if their chicks were backordered too. I could not get good info about that so I will call them in the morning and ask what is backordered and what isn't. I missed them by 1 hour this afternoon. This is important because McMurry will not ship chicks if there are less than 25 ordered. The Feedlot has agreed to order chicks for me and have the hatchery fit my chicks in their standing order as they become available. Very cool of them because then I don't have to wait for 25 chicks to become available to ship.
What kind of chicks are you looking for? And where are you in the valley? The Feedlot may be a better choice for us if our type of chicks are backordered at McMurry.

DH -

25 is a lot... how many are you looking to get? i only want 5 max and to be honest, i don't think i will be able to get them individually at a feed store. based on temperament and egg production, i want Delaware, Australorp, EE, Red Star, Wyandotte, and Marans.

i live in queen creek.

Ideal Poultry will do a minimum of 20 dollars ordered, and then I was charged a 7 dollar small order fee and a 1 dollar (per breed) less than 1/4 box charge. So my shipping was 12 dollars or so for 5 ducks, 5 dutch and 1 buff orpington. If you go on their webiste they say you will need to wait until May, but I clicked a Notify Me and got a ship date almost a month sooner. Of course it's still middle of april, but that was better than middle of may!

Pratt's & The Stock Shop get chicks in every week during the spring.

I just went to Pratt's today to buy feed (had a $5 of coupon) and while there, took a look at what chicks they currently have available. I also stopped at the Stock Shop on the way home.

Pratt's (in Surprise, AZ)
chicks - (sexed as pullets) RIRs, BO, EEs (labeled as Americanas), & BR (I forgot to check prices on the new chicks, but the older, started 1 month old chicks were $3.99. They also had lots of baby ducks & geese, some roosters, and a few game hens & roos. Laying pellets & crumbles are both $14.99 for a 50 lb. bag (Kelley's brand - 16% protein). I've been giving mine game bird laying feed and they don't carry anything like that at Pratts.

The Stock Shop (in Glendale)
chicks - (also sexed as pullets) same breeds as above, but also had white leghorns & california whites - $2.99 each ($3.99 for EEs) - also had a few ducks and some polish chicks, no geese
Purina Layena laying crumbles - $15.99 for a 50 lb bag - game bird laying crumbles - $16.99 (also 50 lbs.)

You know you may get male chicks added to your order for warmth though. I just got in my order of 18 chicks and 5 packing peanut males were added. Unless you get the insurance.
