Arizona Chickens

K! I am feeling better today.

I have 12 eggs that have veining - and more than yesterday. Some have little blobs in them, too. Maybe the bator was too cool and they are just developing slowly??? Any thoughts? Could it be that when the bator was too cool, the embryos retreated closer to the middle of the egg where I couldn't see them??? How bizarre! I was so sure that they were all dead!

I do have one - Mahonri, you'll love this - that looks like it has 2 embryos. I am not sure if it is going to make it as it also has a large dark mass in there, but it could be twins. This is one of the jumbo Marans eggs. The other two look clear, but are so dark and spotted that I can't tell yet. If I can get a good candling pic, I will post it. I found a pic on the web of an egg with twins, but mine looks different. I think it is because mine are sitting at an angle and not on their sides. All the action is in the top of the egg and more compact. Is this okay?

Mahonri, one of the ones I thought had died but seems okay today is a Polish!! So hoping for a chick!

Temps are holding pretty steady now. I am just going to wait

until next week before I throw anything out. Even the clear eggs are helping to stabilize the temps, so I will leave them in.

Has anyone ever ordered or heard anything about www.darkeggs.com?? Found that this morning. Just wondering.

Great news! I am so excited for you!! I think it was just too early to see everything before - especially with those blue & green eggs.

I am still holding on to the cuckoo marans egg even though I can't see the veins or embryo. It is not totally clear (dark at the very bottom) and doesn't have a blood ring, so I will candle it again tomorrow (day 14). Yesterday, I was busy outside getting ready for my spring garden and forgot to monitor my temps - I found my temperature had reached 104.7 (the hottest recorded temp of the 4 thermometers), because my house had warmed up so much in this weather. I really hope they are still okay (they were alive earlier that day when I candled).

Edited to add: I am getting no sleep - it's just like having a new baby in the house. I wake up several times a night to check on the temps - they've been very stable at night, but I still keep waking up to check on them.

Well, aren't you on that other thread with me where people are reporting all those really high and really low temps and they still had good hatches. Amazing.

I am afraid to leave the house.

You and I are going to have to come up with a thermostat for the next hatch. The guy who drilled holes in his water heater thermostat says he has NO fluctuation. I am not confident in my drilling skills, but I will need to try something for the next hatch. This is too much stress!! Still eating chocolate!! Not good

Now take a DEEP swig from the bottle.

Here is a little chickie zen for you. Just hatched and dried off:

I have heard of DarkEggs.Com actually. A friend of mine ordered about 13 Black Shamos, all DOA. The company refuses to replace her money or the chicks.
Anyways, I've heard both good and terrible things about them. They do have some rare chicks but it depends if your willing for it to all go south too.
What Im making out Im own is that they don't have a high live arrival rate.

DEAR GOD Laree, those are amazing.

Heres my own question, Does anyone sell Silkies Pullets/Chicks locally in AZ?

Yup, lots on CL on a regular basis. I had some up until last month. When my Sizzles start laying (and my blue silkie) you could have some of those eggies.

Sonoran Silkies breeds them, but she is hard core. Her silkies are shining stars in a galaxy of gassy brown dwarfs.

I love blues. Any idea what the babes will turn out to be?

I'll go contact Sonoran Silkies. Thanks for the heads up!

Laree, when you posted about your frizzle, I had to go to your page to see if you had any pics of them. Oh! My! That frizzle on your page is hysterical! What a great pic!! Is that a silky? Looks like a polish frizzle. Do you also have Polish hens? I really want some Polish. I have a Polish/Am. egg in my bator and it is veined, but who knows if it will make it and with my luck it will be a roo!
Who has the Polish hens?? Anyone? Fertile eggs??? Am I getting ahead of myself?

I have a polish hen, she is laying but my roo is Patchwork. So anything you hatch out would be a mutt, that goes for any egg I have.

The sizzles (the frizzled cochins crossed with silkies) are not laying yet. They are mating with Sweetcheeks
but again: barnyard mutt. Those girls may still be freeloading, but show them an egg and it is like they are instant broodies.
