Arizona Chickens

Thanks! I'll try it. I'm going to put it out with them this morning and see what they think of it. It opens really easily, so I don't know if I will need a weight or not.

You can place it under the treadle (step).

The closer to the feed the less it will counter-weight.

Tape it in place and move it forward or backwards to adjust it.

i have FOUR babies out!!!!!!!!!!!! one is a buff silkie. ya hear that laree????? a buff silkie! dar's blue wheaten is still sitting on 3 more silkie eggs with one pipped, chirrping away. the other 2 of the other 3 that hatched had to be rescued because they were shrink wrapped. what in the world? not enough humidity? it was at 65%. i still have quail in there due tomorrow so i bumped it up to 72%, but i literally can't get it to go any higher. what do i do? i cannnot rescue 22 shrink wrapped quail. temp is holding, what is the problem?

So sad to hear about blackie.

If the two FBCMs that I hatched out at NY are both pullets, I'll sell you one of them.

Blackie's sister gives me 4 or 5 dark eggs a week.

Great! I really like the FBCM. I'd like two so she won't be lonely while she's growing up. What else do you have right now? Any other dark egg layer, or even a olive egg layer? I'd prefer a POL girl, but I'll take what ever you have. I'll pm you my e-mail & cell #. Thank you, Dar!

I don't know a thing about incubators, but Congrats on your 4 so far! Sounds like you're a pro!

I add a jar of water stuffed with paper towels, or you can add a hot wet sponge or washcloth. I just had quail hatch with 10 of 15 shipped with no problems on day 16. Now I have my barnyard chicks hatching on days 19/20, humidity was in the low 80s and one chick totally stuck so bad that I had to literally peel it out of the membrane and shell totally, so not sure what the issue was as the rest have not had a problem after taking that one out to help and having to get the humidity up again.

Congrats on the chicks!!!
I put a tupperware with two full size sponges stacked one on top of each other, and fill with water. The sponge on the bottom doesn't quite fit, but I cram it in there. When you first put it in be sure the sponges are completely wet and wrung out. It usually gets my humidity in the 80s, although right now it's in the 90s in my hatching incubator. I usually just do a small tupperware with a washcloth in it and filled with water in my big incubator and it keeps that about 30%.

I posted earlier asking for transportation but now I'm considering driving myself. Do any of you need eggs or chickens transported from the Sacramento CA area to the Tucson area and could help with gas money?

I'm also wondering whether they stop you at the CA/AZ border or have any inspections coming into the state? Thanks for any info!

You can email or pm me.

incubator chickie babies are out, just waiting on quail in a day or two. i did have 2 tupperwear things in there already with washcloths, added a third and humidity increased to the 80s. hopefully it will hold. i have 2 silkies out, one buff one white and 3 blue cochinxwho's your mama? plus 14 more pure silkies down at kate's house in her bator starting to pip. the two broodies are "sharing" the 5 babies meaning the brahma had 4 and the blue wheaten had one but she stole one and claimed it hers while she waits for these last two silkie eggs she is sitting on to hatch. i don't think they will. they stopped pecking last night

Pastrymama, not sure what kind of incubator you have, but it should have plugs on top, mine are red. If you need to up the humidity and can't open it, I snake some fish tank tubing in and use a syringe to get hot water in to up the humidity again. Another tool I have recently learned is keeping a knitting needle handy to put through the hole if I need to move eggs a little, like when chicks have played soccer with them and all nudged into one spot!
