Arizona Chickens

Hello everyone! It's been a little while since my last post, so Happy Spring, and Happy B-Day Mikey!

We've just bought a new set of chicks, a Partridge Cochin, Ancona, and a Buff Orpington! We are still on the lookout for a Buff Silkie chick, but the feed store hasn't had any in for a while :( If anyone in Tucson would like to part with one, I'd be happy to take it off your hands!

Have a great day everyone, stay warm during the rains!

I always thought the bat house had to be way up there, like at least 20' off the ground? We have bats around here every night when it warms up. It's cheap entertainment to toss small objects up in the air where they're flying and watch them dive at them.
Kev, my bat houses are up under the eaves of my barn, about 10/12 ft. Put 2 of them up one winter, and they were in use the next summer.. Added 2 more the next winter, and they were all in use last summer.. Hope they are this year also, but haven't yet.. You don't get the gigantic cloud like Carlsbad Caverns, but about 20/30 in each house... Will

Too cute!

X2... Will

I'm almost convinced that it is/was a material/mechanical irritation.

She has some blood crust on her eye now.

I sure don't want to put her down but I cannot get it to clear up!

We are going to take a bottle of saline solution and pressure wash her eye out.

If it doesn't clear up in a few day (let's say by next weekend) I'm going to have to put her down.

OK so the ducks are pretty cool. No ducks for Mikey!

But they are sweet :) And did we mention QUIET?

Miss Silkie,

(I say this as I gaze out over my sodden back yard)

I live in the desert - no H20 for duckies to be at home in .

No ducks for Mikey!

But they are TREE DUCKS. They really don't care much for water unlike other ducks. (Although when I last refilled the baby pool, all three got into it at once--I don't know how there was room for any water!) A baby pool is fine; empty it every few days and refill.
