Arizona Chickens

Hello Everyone! I thought I would take a few minutes to introduce myself down here. I lurk in here periodically. My name is Vanessa and I am an addict. I started out with just wanting 2 but when I got to the feed store I left with 6. Then a day or so later I felt bad for not grabbing a leghorn while I was there so I went back for 1 more. I was content for a short time until I felt that urge again. This time it was 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes. I tried really hard to control myself but then came the silkies, first it was just 5 silkies then it was 3 more. Now there are a few Polish peeping on my patio. My husband let me order some chicks and I didnt want to tell him exactly how many I ordered until AFTER the ordering was all done. My kids are planning to participate in the poultry events in September for 4H. It will be the first time they have participated in anything like that. Im just as excited about it as they are. Unfortunately we werent able to find the kinds of chickens the kids wanted to show locally, which is why we ended up ordering out. Now hubby has gotta build a new coop for all my chickens. I think people are starting to think I have fallen off my rocker. That concludes my chicken family for a little while. As for my human family its me, my hubby and 4 kids (Bobby 14, Mayan 8, Hurricane 9 months and Eclipse 9 months) and we are expecting one more baby in May. This baby will be our last so we decided to do things a bit differently and not find out the gender. We have a little chinese crested dog and a cat too. We are a home schooling family and live in Casa Grande Arizona. We sit on just shy of an acre of land. Its been empty for 7 years and needs ALOT of love on the inside and out. We are working hard to get the outside areas under control before it gets too hot to be out there. Slowly but surely its getting there.

Hope to get to know everyone!

I have eggs from my Delaware (lays a dark brown egg), my black star hen (medium brown egg) and my cinnamon queen.. (light brown eggs)
Who are in with the Golden Cuckoo Maran roo. As you know, I got 5 chicks from my Delaware eggs... all pullets.. and they all look like GC Marans. I imagine that they will be dark layers.

Do you want me to save you some of their eggs??

I imagine by June I'll be getting eggs from my FBCMs... I've already picked the roo I'm going to keep .

Delawares are prretttyyyy. How are yours personality wise? I've been hearing for the most part they lay well and tend to be easy going chickas.

I feel like a grandpa!

That one will be pretty! I hope it's a pullet. You can tell it's a Wheaten because it has more yellow. The Blue Wheatens are a little more white as chicks.

BTW: Carol is just one week behind you.

There's another pip on the BW/W eggs, but nothing from the 11 on the other side of the divider. Even though I have a fan running to keep temps more even, I think it's still cooler over there away from the light. Hopefully they're just a little delayed from being on the cool side. During the first 17 days, I rotated them into new locations once a day, but couldn't do that from day 18-21.
