Hey, hope everyone is doing good, I've not been on in a while!

Pastrymama, I totally understand! That is why we found homes for our big chickens even though it was so sad to do it. After they were gone, the decrease in cleaning is so nice, it almost balances out the sadness of not having them around.

The Seramas are doing great, so at least we still have the little ones

I'm posting the treadle feeder in the for sale section if anyone is interested in it ... my Seramas have never figured it out that more than one has to sit on it to open it.

That is brilliant! Thankfully Lucy (the red star we got from AZKat) only ate her egg once, and since had laid quite a few eggs with no eating them after laying them. Thankfully I do not have to try this method, but I will remember it if I should ever run into this problem on a consistent basis!

I'm posting the treadle feeder in the for sale section if anyone is interested in it ... my Seramas have never figured it out that more than one has to sit on it to open it.

Hi nurseshelly! How much does a Serama weigh? I'll bet not very much. You might be able to add weight to the treadle mechanism (perhaps below) to make it open with less force. Now that I think about it, that's a pretty giant feeder for a small bird like that.

I thought about you the other day when we were talking tortoises here.

Not a drop here in Wittmann but wind and dust. Had a crazy thing happen before the storm moved in! We heard a crash and what we think happened is that a dust devil came down just on the patio and moved the big igloo, toppled a table and flipped over the propane gas grill! We looked around for any more damage and not even a goat kennel was moved! Just the patio stuff!
WE NEVER get the rain! Just that darn wind. Last wind storm hurt Hawkeye our EE rooster so bad he went totaly blind and I had to put him down. He was such a pretty guy!

What a great idea! If I ever run into that situation, this will be the first trick I try. Mine have only been laying for a week now. I got 6 eggs in 8 days from one of my EE'ers and 5 eggs in 5 days from my other EE'er. One lays pinkish eggs and the other an olive color. We are patiently waiting for our two Brahmas to start laying.

I wish sooo much that we had a pond (we kinda do, it is a kiddy pool for the ducks...but that is by no means a grand turtle environment, lol). I would get a couple in a heart beat, but my ducks would sour the pond in an instant..so I guess turtles will have to stay on the "wish I had one" list until I no longer have ducks.

Regarding the Rescue disposable fly traps:

For everyone that uses these traps. Do you hang them near your coops or near the apparent source or do you hang them away from these locations to draw the flies away?
