Arizona Chickens

sometimes i think when we are having a bad day or feeling sorry for ourselves for one reason or another, something comes up to slap us back into a quick reality check and be ever so greatful of all the things in our lives that we do have. i got one today around 11:15.

my fireman's first cousin's wife was out walking their 18month old(only child) this morning down in awatukee. she collapsed and died right there on the sidewalk. we don't know the reason yet, her husband was out of town, her family lives in the midwest, his family in CA. all i know is that i will hug my family tighter tonight, but two other families will never be the same.

his cousin's wife passed, not the child.

I can't begin to imagine the depth of the heartbreak all around.

Whoa..... but I know the reality of it. Halloween 2 years ago. Our next door neighbors consisted of grandparents, daughter, and daughters son all living together. The daughter was 32 years old. Her son was the same age as my daughter. Her son and my kids played together all the time and went to school together. Halloween day, she didn't feel well so the grandparents took their grandson out to trick or treat. They came back, and found her dead. Her heart gave out unexpectedly. The little boy came to our house to stay while the grandparents sorted things out. It still haunts me. I will turn 30 in July...just 2 years younger then my neighbor when she passed away. Crazy. Makes me appreciate life and not take it for granted.

A great quote that I love: "I am too blessed to be stressed."

Also, a great tip..when stressed...go watch the chickens for a while. Their antics will never fail to bring a smile to your face!

Hi nurseshelly! How much does a Serama weigh? I'll bet not very much. You might be able to add weight to the treadle mechanism (perhaps below) to make it open with less force. Now that I think about it, that's a pretty giant feeder for a small bird like that.

I thought about you the other day when we were talking tortoises here.

eta: I just looked at your ad. That looks like a nice feeder! Great price too.
Hi :)
They never figured it out, even with it open. I think it was too scary for them. They wouldn't go near it, even with scratch. Silly birds!
How are your tortoises? Mine are loving all of the weeds and plants around right now. My one that got stung by a scorpion last summer is finally almost completely better :)

Hi,
You just hang them up and the flies are attracted by the smell and once they go inside, they can't get out and they die. I have to get a few ... we have a sudden fly explosion at my house!!! I didn't see the first post, but we use the one that you add water to and hang.

Regarding the Rescue disposable fly traps:

For everyone that uses these traps. Do you hang them near your coops or near the apparent source or do you hang them away from these locations to draw the flies away?
