Arizona Chickens

5/24/2012 I live in Tucson, AZ. I'm interested in Spanish hens (only) and Viking/Icelandic hens. Not chicks. At least a few weeks old. I'm not in a hurry. I have a great coop and run and good shade. Tomas

Hello Tomas! Welcome to BYC and our AZ thread! Hopefully, some one will have the birds you're looking for.

Arizona Chickens.

Here is a picture of my coop BEFORE the shadecloth "roof was added:

And here is a photo AFTER the shadecloth "roof" was added. Which reminds me I need to finish strapping the thing down on that side. Ooops...

And another angle showing the shadecloth "roof". This sucker is hard to photograph. Pity I didn't think to get photos as I built it. Duh...

Hooray!!! We got our first egg today!!! Only for days in their new home! Looking forward to many more!!!

Congratulations! Now, have you decided how you are going to prepare that egg?

The first eggs we got so far from each of our chickens I blew out the yolk and saved the whole shells. So far only 2 but I have 2 Brahmas that I'm waiting to catch up and start laying. After blowing out the first 2, I made a nice omelet...it was delicious

Welcome to the AZ thread. It seems like a couple of people here have the Icelandic chickens. I bet you find some. Off hand I don't remember anyone with the Spanish hens....is that the white faced Spanish chickens?? I did see some at the Poultry show a couple of months ago. Maybe you can find a source at the fair, if you don't before then.
