I'm sorry to be a downer - I'm feel like I almost have no good news to share anymore.

Crappy home-coming.

One of my 3 remaining App Spitz is gone - Hoppy - she was the one who would hop up on my knee when I sat down to hand out treats

and Twisty (GSL with a cross beak) was laying in th bottom of the run less than half alive, covered in ants. She had swollen eyes an looks to have succumbed t that shitty mycoplasma.

She was doing nothing but suffering so I had to put her down. To top it off I had no CO2 & had to use a hatchet.

This sux.

I ****'n hate this!

Quote: Hoppy's Back!!!

Wahoo!!!

I found her by the outside water-er just sett'n there this morning.

I didn't mention it last night but One-dot's sister was sneezing up mucos (or whatever chickens have)

I went to Shoppers and picked up the bulk pack of needles, syringes & another bottle of Tylan.

Everybody got a shot this morning.

I sure hope I'm not OD'ing them on anitbiotics - the state vet thought very highly of this stuff though...

Tylan is very safe to use, even longterm. It's bacteriostatic, instead of bactericidal, so it stops the organism from reproducing, but doesn't kill it. Thus, it won't kill off all their good bacteria too. A lot of pets and food animals take it daily for life, so don't worry about that. Maybe giving probiotic could also help them keep the MG in check? Walmart has Probios, I dont know if chickens have their own probiotics. Could try sprouting them wheat grass to boost immune systems too? I'm sorry you lost a girl, but glad the other showed up.

Wow, I've been gone for a while and can't even begin to catch up. But here's a big
welcome-byc.gif
for all of the new people here. And

to those who have had losses.

My girls (and one boy..shhhhh!) are doing well. I don't have the blue marans roos any more. The black orpington roo has been quiet as a mouse, so he's still here!

He's so pretty. I'll post pictures of him when I get a chance, and I'll see what you all think.
We're doing a lot of work here which will result with the chooks getting about 100 more sq ft of run space.

I'm already calculating...100 sq ft will fit how many hens?

At least 50 because they will be chicks, so they will be little!

By the time they grow up you will have built on more, so it will all work out. Actually, factoring in the percentage of roos that you will have that will need to be rehomed, it is probably better to start with 75.

I got to sleep under the stars (and rainclouds) last night and wake up to my EE roo crowing his heart out.

I was out there waiting for Mr. Coyote, but he hasn't been around in a week!

Maybe soon it'll be safe to let the birds free range again!
