Arizona Chickens

I'd LOVE to... it's so far away from a water source though. The 5 gallon bucket holds plenty of water, the coop gets shade all day long (the open side faces north) and I will give them frozen milk jugs of water in the summer. That's more than they had "back in the day" so I'm sure they can make it.

Unless you were OFFERING to come hook me up with some misters and auto-waterers... that's a different situation completely...

Shhh...it is a present for someone else. I am going to deposit it sneaky-sneaky-like in their yard, and then let them be confused.

Well, this last hatch was a bust too. I am wondering if something is wrong with my incubator: the temps are consistant, but the humidity readings are always a little weird. I figure it is the hydrometers that were weird, as the readings are always a little crazy. (there are 3 in there) I had loaned out my incubator last Nov, and it hasn't hatched the same since. Not that I think the person busted it---I suspect the dry winter air is having more of an effect than any jarring the incubator might have had.

The DH took my car keys with him to work today, so to confirm my theory I performed a few egg-topsies while I was waiting for him to come home. I hadn't bothered to do them before, since most of my eggs have died & been discarded before lockdown. But, this time I had 6 of my own eggs that did NOTHING after lockdown. Of course, the first one I opened was still alive, and the whole top half of the egg popped off when I cracked it open. It started bleeding and my heart sank. I wrapped it up in a wet paper towl and put it back in the incubator. Here's hoping it makes it. The other 5 eggs were all dead, fully formed, shrink-wrapped in the shell. Sorry Sock, I don't have any chicks for you this round.

As a result, I do not have high hopes for onthespot's eggs. Originally I thought they were due Sat, but when I re-checked the dates I saw they are due today or tomorrow. So, there is still hope. I bumped up himidity more and crossed my fingers.

Thank you for trying to get me some chicks. I am not in any hurry. Hopefully you can get your incubator figured out, that is the most important thing.

Today is a wonderful day. The sun is shining, the skies are blue, the temps are awesome, all my windows are open, chickens are clucking, chicks are peeping, oh and I am missing an entire wall of my house!

It is a beautiful day to get more chicks!! DD and I will be by later to check out that missing wall! Very exciting for you! Nothing like big changes. I crave them every now and then.

Sounds good I just hope that you are not too shocked by the happenings. I have three partial coops and a huge pile of tree limbs covering the backyard, the missing wall, the confused and amused hubby banging on anything that don't move and my brooder shed is all crazy because I attempted to help hubby while he was away by moving some things but stopped in the middle after I killed 7 black widows. I'm allergic to anything that bites or stings so I thought it was best for me to quit disturbing the universe and this is just on the outside. Inside I have the stove tore apart cleaning it, the fridges are emptied out for cleaning, the washer and dryer are going like mad and my child is hiding with the playstation and every now and then you hear Homer Simpson scream something at the virtual drivers passing by! You would think that we would be all frustrated but for some reason everything is so happy. I think it has to do with change. A change that was most needed. Oh and right in the middle of all this change is a tree house with a little chihuahua dog in it that is very very confused!

Wall is missing because the previous owners were drunk or high or something when they built the add-on room. Nothing was square and we want to turn that room into an Arizona room/ bedroom. My son is getting our room cause he's out grown the little nursery type room. We will be moving out in the room we are working on and my son's current room will become office/storage/pantry or something like that. We are also cleaning out junk and rearranging the chicken stuff.
