Arizona Chickens

I have a couple of Mahonri's hens - yes, very sweet tempered. One is broody right now. I also have 7 of their 3 week offspring (+ even more chicks from eggs I bought from him).

Oh, my gosh! I am MISSING a 3 week old chick! I have never lost a chick before. I have counted and recounted and only have six of the seven W/BW ameraucana chicks I started with. We let them out 2 days ago for the first time, in two large dog kennel type cages for safety. My 16 year old daughter let them out to roam (so she could play with them) before putting them back away for the night and then she left them out their alone for about 5-10 minutes. I came outside and had a fit that they were in the backyard free (I never guessed she would think it's okay to walk away from that at that age), but they looked fine. I didn't take a head count till posting chicks in the breed/gender section tonight. 1 is missing! And.... it would be one of the purebreds

Oops - false alarm. Thank goodness! I forgot that one of my chicks had got pecked at and I applied bluecote (sp?) to its back and had it separated from the flock while the stuff dried. All is well, no missing chick. I'm glad my daughter isn't home right now cause I would told her she let a chick get taken/eaten.

ACK ACK! That's so terrible! I hope you find her. Maybe leave out some food for it? Could she have gone far?

I'm sorry to alarm you - I started to go out back and take a look around and then saw my container with the extra chick (see my modified post). It's doing fine. I feel like such an airhead.

PHEW! I am so glad no one is missing. I thought I had lost my RIR when she was 3 weeks after playing with them.
Somehow she was in the closed closet in the hallway! I was so frightened!

We lived in Glendale, and now in Wittmann. We just made sure our girls had plenty of shade, lots of water, and we even put a fan in their coop during the heat of the day. Then they learned what steps were, and how to come inside to the air conditioning! LOL They would come in and lay on our rug that sits right inside the door.

Hey all~
Hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start...Mine, well..

So anyway, before I post on the wonderful sale site of CL, I'm just putting it out there that I must sell my 08 Red Golden male (pheasant)...see avatar. Any questions, feel free to PM me..Have lots of additional pictures..

Other than that, my incubator is full of MFC eggs, 4 chicks are happily poppin' around in their brooder and one hen decided she wants to go broody....can't decide if thats a good or bad thing right now

Well it was a long morning at work.

Got done about 1PM. Came home and inspected the coop cleaning. Kids did a good job. Weeded a little garden, mowed the lawn (good exercise & the chickens love the grass), cleaned pool. Noticed I've got some HUGE cauliflower heads I'm going to need to harvest soon. My mouth is watering thinking about it!

gckiddhouse came by with her little girl to get some eggs for her next batch. I really hope she gets a good hatch.... I gave her lots of extras so I hope she gets lots of chicks. I gave her the last of the Marans eggs that were fertilized by the GC Maran roo before I rehomed him so I hope she gets at least a couple... and hopefully pullets!

Had some plans for this afternoon but now that has changed and it's welcome because I am tired!!!

Loved the pics of ADC's chicks! Glad she got some pullets.

Well come May I'll be ready to sell my Barred Rock, my Ancona and at least one of my white leghorns... and perhaps even my Delaware and Buff Orp. I need to downsize by five when I add the five new pullets and the little roo and if the roo doesn't look spectacular, then I'll have a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana roo to sell. I will miss the BR and the Delaware, they are such gentle girls and don't mind being held at all! The Delaware is one year old today!... and I think she is show quality.

Well hope you are all having a great weekend.

Mahonri - here's the rest of the chicks (minus the 7 W/BW Am. & the EE on the other thread)

These are the 4 chicks from my dark blue (a little scraggly now at 3 weeks, but I think they will be pretty - it looks like I might have two blue ones?):

These are the 3 chicks from my splash Am plus one of your EEs (the three darker ones in front are from the splash)
