Arizona Chickens

OT question, but maybe someone knows someone who is good with saguaro cacti?

DH and I have one that has recently had a large birds nest dug into it. the rain and expansion from the rain has apparently put some cracks into it too (?? although I haven't seen....I am still in GA).

DH is worried that it's going to crack and break or something along those lines. Has anyone had to deal with this? Would an arborer service have a clue or anyone know anyone who works with cacti?

thanks.....

Well, if it does fall, you'll have to call the city to have an inspector come out and make sure you didn't cut it down. If you're caught transporting the pieces without a permit, it could mean trouble. Saguaros are protected. I don't think there's much to do about the cracking...maybe someone here knows more about that.

It hasn't stopped snowing here, yikes! I don't like to complain about it too much because we desperately need it, and we're always praying for moisture. However, a little break would be nice. It really does make it difficult for my boys and I, and our animals to move around. That said, I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the geese. They are kind of confused by the snow, and don't seem to like it much. This is their first winter, and their main diet was grass. I didn't have to mow the lawn at all this summer. They now like to eat the only grass they can which happens to be the grass hay I feed the horses. I guess it is safe for them. Here are the pics. By the way, they have never been on the deck before today. We didn't know they were there until we heard knocking on the door. They're probably wondering where all the chickens are.

The next pictures were taken a few days before the snow. I have an amazing sweet horse who doesn't mind sharing his pellets with the chickens, or the hay with the geese.

Yea the rain is great but it can stop anytime now. WE have a mother goat about ready to pop and the rain isn't helping much to keep her area dry. I can hardly wait!

kacklinkelly: If you can't find a processor, I'd be glad to come over and help you process. It isn't that hard to do, especially with more than one person to work on it.

I went out last night to put everyone up and my black copper marans roo who is this giant tough looking bird had gotten out of his pen, broke into the grow out pen which I had opened up for the day and and squeezed under the brooder lamp I keep in there. All the poor Tweens were huddled in a corner of the run and this butterball was nice and toasty. He didn't look happy when I took him back to his run.

That just cracks me up. I can just see it too!
