Arizona Chickens

I don't know about city inspectors.  They sent a citation to my neighbor for "weeds in the yard."  They got the address wrong.  His yard is pure dirt.  Mine was full of foliage.  When the inspector finally got the address right, he walked on  my turnips and beets.  He didn't know what turnips were, but he understood about beets.  Wait until it warms up; I am going to plant okra.

Remember, the BTK killer was a city inspector.  Always be nice to them.

Love okra!! Clueless inspector.. Do ya all think by putting a light in for a few extra hours will help our girl start producing eggs. Since it is shorter days?? Their combs & hackles are a beautiful red now. Vibrant red. Date of birth 7-7-12?? Or do they molt first??

It's still snowing. I will have great pictures when it is done. I was looking at our forecast and it is suppose to snow this Wednesday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

It hasn't stopped snowing here, yikes! I don't like to complain about it too much because we desperately need it, and we're always praying for moisture. However, a little break would be nice. It really does make it difficult for my boys and I, and our animals to move around. That said, I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the geese. They are kind of confused by the snow, and don't seem to like it much. This is their first winter, and their main diet was grass. I didn't have to mow the lawn at all this summer. They now like to eat the only grass they can which happens to be the grass hay I feed the horses. I guess it is safe for them. Here are the pics. By the way, they have never been on the deck before today. We didn't know they were there until we heard knocking on the door. They're probably wondering where all the chickens are. The next pictures were taken a few days before the snow. I have an amazing sweet horse who doesn't mind sharing his pellets with the chickens, or the hay with the geese.
Beauty's !!

Oh man! All this talk about inspectors I'm getting worried. I feel like I see people losing their flocks left and right on here. We technically live inside the city with the 50 ft minimum from every house and no roos, but our neighbors had chickens and roos before us and their coop is just as close to their houses. I'm sure the dogs in this neighborhood are much noisey-er than any of our roosters! Mines only a serama at that so his crow is pretty pathetic compared to the neighbors haha. We live on the south side though, so one a few of our neighbors have a junkyard in one or both of their front and back yards and another doesn't have electricity or any doors or windows on their house... I'm terrified we'll get one of those letters, but I'm hoping no one would bother reporting us.
I'm so sorry for all of you losing your chickens!!!!

isn't there anything we can do about it??

OMG i know exactly how you feel! Then again - I am 21 and only 18 months married haha. DH does PLAN to move outside the city limits, we are currently saving for a down payment though =)
Of course doesn't make me any less scared for my chickies. DH wants a little mini farm - a few bunnies, a pair of goats, a cow or two and as many chickens as I can build coops for! And of course our own 4+ herd of Great Danes and English Mastiffs to terrify those inspector types... Ah the dream life, eh?
