Arizona Chickens

What do you mean "it seemed to not work"?  It stopped heating/holding temperature or the light went off?  Or it didn't heat enough?  It may need a new wafer (inexpensive and available at most feed stores), or the thermostat may need adjusting.  If the light went off, it probably thought it was at the required temperature.
it is styrofoam..I had it on for about 4 hours. It only went up to 80'. I did adjust the temp at first to the highest setting..
Then turned it down once & the light went off then I knew it was working.. Left it alone for 2 hours...
I watched the thermostat & felt as though it was not working " the incubator".
Plus the whole humidity being correct... ?
That is when I thought to myself I could mess things up...
Then I realized the hen laying is Chole, our golden sebright.. I thought that their eggs were green/ blue/green?? Her's are creamy..
I am not as egg-cited now... She does not have the feathers on her feet.. Not that I would be able to pick when someone goes broody & what hen
is laying either... So far out of the four that are laying I can only confirm 2..
Does anyone know what color egg a Mille Fleur lay's?? I have asked a few different people & so far I thought it was creamy?? She could be laying the
white one?? I thought our blue Andalusian was the only white egg layer..
I know you all are thinking the newbies.. ;(... Thank you all for putting up with us...

golden sebrights dont have feather feet in the breed and they lay small white/tinted white eggs.
mille fleur is a color not a breed, is she a d'uccle? they have feather feet and creamy eggs.

Wow! I had no idea of how hard it is to hatch eggs. As I said earlier In school we each we gives 2 dozen eggs, we had to build our own incubator. We were to bring one to school every so many days, when we were done we were to have 4 live chicks. I was the only one that hatched eggs. I must have done it right. I made a wooden box, egg Carton bottoms, light, water bowel., and a temperature gage, turned the eggs before school, after school and before bed. :jumpy

Does anyone on here have some chickens from DesertMarcy? Are they good quality?

I bought 2 blue laced red Wyandottes from her. I don't show but they sure are pretty. I was really impressed with all of her birds and her set up. Really clean and nice. I would definately buy from her again, even though she's a LONG way from Scottsdale.

I have been using a borrowed Hovabator and it worked just fine. Keep turning the heat up until it is 99-100 degrees, then just barely turn it down so the light goes out. Adjust the little wing nut to keep the thermostat at that setting and let it run 24 hours to make sure it keeps the temp steady. Really needs to be in a room without drafts and that is already fairly warm. Rooms that have wide temperature swings make it a lot harder to keep the temps up.

The hygromemeter will tell you what the humidity is inside, you adjust by putting more or less water in the trays in the bottom.
