Arizona Chickens

I have noticed more black dots on my girls comb & wattle.. Is that something to worry about?
Since our girls are just starting to lay.. I heard a few words like egg bound? If a hen sits on her nest with out laying an egg.. Length of time? 1day to long..
With no egg... Would that be considered egg bound..
Is there something we could do?? The warm water right bath?
Not that we have that.. Just want to stay informed...

Usually of a hen is egg bound, her posture will be different, too. When she stands up, her tail will point down and she'll probably waddle a bit, too. If she is egg bound, you'll need to take care if it soon.

Someone had 3 free chickens on Craigslist, 2 RIRs and a blue Andalusian. They were the same age as my feed store pullets so I went and got them. The ad said they couldn't tell what gender they are, but its pretty clear I was given 3 roos I think. The blue Andalusian is super nasty and bites the heck out of me. It bites me when I touch the other chickens, when I feed, when I water... I've never seen anything like it. I need to find someone in the Cave Creek, Carefree or North Phoenix area that knows how to pluck and dress them. At what age is a dual purpose bird good for eating?

Our Roo Kent started to peck a bit. I go right back at him. I DO NOT give him any Authority. I pick him up, carry him backwards around the coop & yard for a while.. He has stopped trying to peck me.. Try it and let us know if that or anything you do works.

If it's old enough to be obnoxious it's old enough to eat.

^ lol! Thats exactly what my boyfriend said. He's just still so small I doubt there'd be much meat on him. I'm thinking of letting him go into the big coop with the hens and adult rooster. I can't even handle my younger pullets with this turd in the mix.

Use him for stock. Head, feet and all. Should be good!

Quote: i bought 4 fbcm's from her, beautiful birds. according to desertmarcy they weren't sq, but didn't matter to me. i know her other birds were as she won a prize at the tucson show. her blue copper maran's were phenomenal. she was selling a breeding air of blue laced red wyandottes. the rooster was great. if i was ready to start breeding then, i would have been all over them.

I was just reading on a web site how misguided we are to have chickens because the Roos. It says, we THINK we are doing a good thing. It must be PETA in the back ground. Roos are copped up, sometimes alive in commercial chick/eggers. Apparently that is alright. It says chickens still hatch boy birds. Will? Doesn't there need to be a boy bird around for a hen to lay to boy Egg? I eat chicken, all those chickens wee eat are usually girl.... 4 mo. Old deformed girls. I can't let people like that upset me.
If I get fertile eggs for one of my girls I will probably dispatch the Roos at some point, and know that they had a good life, eat well, and got plenty of dust baths. I use as much of the bird as I can, feet, heads, nick and bones in the stock pot. A life is to precious to wast. One more thing I will know that he did not suffer or traumatized at the end. If I didn't feel this way I would be a vegan.
