Arizona Chickens

Hey everyone I locked down last night and used Laree's suggestion of a basket for the eggs I want to keep seperate. I hope its high enough it's all I had and didn't have time to drive the 15 miles to the closest store.
Here is a picture of the eggs just before I closed up. They were started on a Friday 12th at 11 am. So should I expect them to hatch
Thursday or Friday?

I saw the chicks in the feed store up here, they have a no touch rule but the girl let me pick one up(she knows that I am the chicken lady)...I BET that they are meat birds....sure enough they are....I bet that I am going to get a ton of calls asking why they are growing so fast, or that their chicken is dieing...I just hope if they don't want them they call me..I have brooder space and I will go get them...

laree... if you end up out of space...I will make a road trip down to your house, I need to anyway

Very nice set up...I need to get out my baskets, I have some stuff that needs to be separate and I wasn't sure how I was going to to it. I must have missed a post or two.

Tofu- I owe you a picture of your boy! I took a pic, but didn't get to post it. I will do it tonight when I show off yesterday's craigslist find: a bedroom set. 5 years of sleeping on the floor: OVER

Going to Nancy's this afternoon. She has a day-old I can stick under my buff brahma broody.

When I was a kid in Chicago, (many many long years ago), I found a green dyed chick wandering down the street. Of course I rescued him, and he turned out to be white leghorn rooster, I named him "Dick Clark" and he loved me, and attacked everyon else, so. . . .off to the "farm" with him. In this case, he actually did go to a small farm owned by friends, thank goodness.

What mahonri said. If you could possibly get them on the east side of your house, that would be a huge step in changing the weather for them. Our coop area is under two trees, and we do have a mister. You can pick up a $10 mister at Home Depot while you are there. We have the shade screen stuff, too.

I'd love to get them over there, but it isnt possible. We are in the process of building a new coop and were putting it where a big summer shade tree blocks out the sun. We had planned on removing the tree but decided against it because of the chickens. My husband said he can install misters and sprinklers in the coop. Its not really a coop, its more like a 2 or 3 car modified covered carport. Its enclosed with trellace and heavy gauge fencing to keep the coyotes out. We have the inside devided into several sections using doors and chicken wire. Thankfully the next day or two will have nice weather to do it in, even if it is raining. Im also looking into ordering some vines that are 'supposed' to grow very quickly and I will add them to the trellace.

Wow! I didn't expect so many people to be interested in meaties

Could everyone who is interested in getting in on the order PM me with the number of birds that they'd be interested in, and also let me know if the last week of September or the first week of October works better, so that I can get the order in as soon as possible. I'll be ordering from Meyer, as I've heard good things about their meaties, and had a good experience ordering from them before, so if anyone wants non-meat chicks from them, I'd be glad to add them to the order. Also, I live in West Mesa, and can't deliver the birds, although as I said, I'd be glad to keep them for a day or two, until people can pick them up.
