I had to go back in to the family room to look at all of them. And I thought it was tough with 41 chicks.

Guess we'll see what happens.

I have a feeling I'm going to be processing Ameraucana roos. I don't think I've "cleaned" (processed) a pheasant or a chicken since 1983... I'll just need a sharp knife and something to help me scrape out the lungs.... and I always skin them. I think that's healthier.

Mahonri ~ I can't wait to read about your upcoming hatch. I was wondering if you could use a dental elevator for the lungs. Sorry I couldn't help but wonder. I have never done the processing myself but I do know that the tool for the lungs is similar in shape and I am sure you already have an elevator (maybe one that you don't particularly like or care to use for it's proper purpose?) or maybe this thought will spur a different idea for you so that you don't have to go out and purchase a scraper. Oh well just a thought. Happy hatching

What kind of eggs are you incubating? Are they all Ameraucanas? Different types?

Long story, but I ended up sticking 2 chicks under broody #2. Cross your fingers she is a good momma!

So ANYWAY, while I was sitting there, making sure broody # 2 was being nice to her chicks, I was watching Dozer with her 3 little chicks. I thought: "GOSH, I wish I remembered which chick came out of where. One has an obvious tophat, and I was sure one chick was one of Dozer's. Maybe the tophat? Or maybe the smaller white (?) chick with white legs is hers? It has slightly feathered legs...."

Then it dawns on me. DOH! *forehead slap* Dozer is a sizzle...which means silkie toes...So I counted toes. The little WHITE/YELLOW chick with white legs and white skin has 5 toes. Further examinantion shows frizzled feathers coming in. I can't wait to see what it looks like.

Happy April Fools day!

I am fondly remembering the craziness last year on BYC with the eggs/rooster thing. The posts got pretty funny as every time someone typed egg, the posts displayed rooster instead.

Tofu - Just how tall are you and generally what part of town do you live in?
Nessa - I am sitting on my hands and refraining from asking just what fun you decided not to spoil for everyone...as I remember that egg/rooster thing from last year. I also refrained, via your example, from talking about my most used search engine today.
RRR - so glad you got some sleep.

HATCHING - I have heard some folks have been successful with a box, a light and a bowl of water. Just saying...if you have an extra egg or 5, you might try it. I would be very curious.

TURNING and HATCHING - why is turning important?

Because the the embryo will stick to one side of the shell, and cannot turn around to unzip the egg.
