Arizona Chickens

Anyone local raising meat chickens? I was looking for info on a someone to process them and wondered if there were any recommendations. Wondering mostly what it would cost to have them processed.

State regulators have pretty much put most of the chicken processors out of business. It is pretty much a "do it yourself" thing now. Seems to me we discussed this issue a couple of years ago. Things may have changed. I suggest you ask around in the local carnicerias.
They may be able to point you to a sub rosa processor.

I've processed a few now and they really aren't difficult. The two longest parts was waiting for the blood to drain and plucking the feathers. If you are doing multiples, you can work at stations. Drain the first. Move it to feathering, slaughter another and set to drain while you pluck the first. Finish about six, taking between 30 and 60 minutes. Take them inside to finish at about ten minutes each. From start to finish, I hear an experienced person can fully process one in under ten minutes. I ran closer to 20 minutes last time, though.

ugh. suprise suprise. 2 of my "hens" sang a duet this morning. Anyone interested in a silkie or frizzle roo? They're free

Has just had my suspicions confirmed. My Partridge Silkie is a roo. I heard "her" crowing away this morning. Very cute but its still a roo. I told hubby months ago that I thought she was a roo and he told me no no no......

Don't you live to say, " moma knows best !"

Your roo is beautiful... We will be hatching some from our partridge silkie in a few weeks..

Hello.everyone! This is the first chance I've had to catch up on this thread. Man, if you don't check it twice a day you kinda get left behind! The roosters mama hen brought me are adjusting beautifully! Yesterday they were still kinda shy, hiding in the nest house when I got home from work. But as soon as I let the girls out into the yard they came out and starting scratching and pecking around the outside run. Today when I got home they were in the run, on the ground, in the run eating and drinking and just being chickens with the girls! They are doing soooooo well and we love them so much. My 4 year old absolutely adores them. Ill see if I can get some pics up on here for you all. I do this from my phone and it freaks out sometimes. And thank-you for letting me into your chicken club! I've got the chicken addiction....
