How's your chick??

Here's my next 3 photos of our new babies...

I always get the funniest pictures of this girl - last time it looked like she was dancing, this time she looks like she's headed down the catwalk and strutting her stuff.

Wow, I lose my internet for a day and get so behind!

BR is a pullet - she is darker than a cockerel would be and has dark wash on her legs. Pullets mature at different rates. It seems like there is always at least one in a bunch that gets the comb and waddles earlier than you think they should. A cockerel's would be bigger at this stage, though.

Chicken weight - Ideal poultry also has weights listed in the description of each of their chickens.

Sick Chicken - I would put her in a box and bring her inside. Put her in a quiet darkish room and try to get her to drink. That will make it easier for her to recover and will protect your flock in case it's contagious.

Pictures - Great! I love to see chick pictures.

And there's the ketchup Cliff Notes. cheers!

So, I've discovered the girls like red radishes, with the greens still on, like nobodies business. They love the broccoli and cauliflower. Grapes are a big hit, tomatoes are ok, asparagus is meh and they don't go for apples much, but bananas and strawberries they love. Oatmeal and yogurt is a huge favorite and there's this one weed in my yard, I keep picking for them, that they really like, besides the odd patch of grass. It's very similar to this pic of dandelion, but not quite the same.

I am not positive, but I am assuming you are referring to milkweed. That was the single most common plant in my yard these last two years, but I haven't seen so much a sign of them so far. They are definitely the creme de la creme if weeds. My girls also devour watermelon like a bunch of junkies at a crack fest. I mean, there was a paper-thin skin left and that was it. I couldn't have done a better job with a potato peeler!

On a side note, the topic came up about a month ago regarding hunting dove, particularly the Euro-collared dove. I had one in my back yard today. I don't recall seeing them before, especially as large as this one was, but I may have mistaken them for pigeon from a distance in the past. Regardless, he is now residing in my front yard, courtesy of Mr. Crossman, until Monday...

In the meantime, my Black Coppers from DesertMarcy are growing very well and my Barred Rocks are on day fourteen of laying an egg each. Batman, on the other hand, laid four straight and is out for the last three. Still, though, she hasn't fully settled in yet.

Night everyone. Work comes really early at my house!

Sounds like "London Rocket" (Sisymbrium irio). It's a wild mustard brassica; one of the most common weeds here at this time of year, it's edible too.

You are probably referring to London Rocket, one of the most common weeds in Tucson yards this time of year. It's in the mustard family. I'd take a picture for you but my chickens have eaten most of them. This site has some photos. Not the best representation of what they look like in my yard but you'll get the idea:
