Arizona Chickens

Just got my camera back from having it cleaned and repaired. Tested it out on the girls tonight. My 5 week old silkies. Paul or Paula? Isn't Trixie sweet? Don't let that face fool you! My Buff Silkie Lucille with the twisted beak. She doesn't mind her beakicure done every month. Clara my Welsummer was not pleased with the camera in her face. Dolly my Buff Orpington liked looking at herself in the lens. Zsa Zsa my Silver Laced Wyandotte chillin on my lap and telling me about her day.
Very nice, love your photos

From my own experience whenever you place a order ask for a specific Breed.. They will tell you if that is ok with that specific order..
I do love the feathered feet as well...
Seriously? I never thought to make a request. I just thought the statement something like "you will get at least 3 breeds from our list of brown egg layers, of course we try to include as much variety as possible" meant that the buyer didn't get to pick at all. That's the reason for the cheaper price per chick on the assortment, since you don't get to choose. But I guess it can never hurt to ask and the worst they could say is "in your dreams," so next time I will give it a shot! Thanks for the suggestion!

I have a broody hen that has been very dedicated. Unfortunately, the three eggs she was on quit. They were due to hatch last Friday I think I had candled and they were growing and had air sacks early last week but seems that they are not going to hatch and air sacks are no bigger this week

Does anyone in Tucson area have any banty day old or due soon chicks? I would prefer a small breed since she is the same size as my RIR and BR 8 week old chicks but I am not picky and I am sure she would be happy with any chick or two right now.

Aw, poor thing. I hope you can find her some chicks soon. You might try Hatch Bawks. She usually has chicks of all ages. Her website seems to be down but her phone is 6022530245. Good luck!

Awhee, sorry to hear that.. I think you & I plus those poor little eggs are in the same boat... Our did not get past that either, so far.. We are giving it a few more days.. On a better note, the 3 little cuties from red rocket are so very happy & accepted this morning.. They were frolicking on the Moma hens, Karen our silkie & Loraine our speckled Sussex.. They were all so happy.. I brought out a bowl of chicken scratch To them all.. The others quickly joined in.. Celebrating the new family members.. No pecking.. The two black copper Marans we got from Boston Bryce we like "huh" what is going on here?? Those two are 2 pee's in a pod.. Best friends & the most laid back girls.. I love them... Lilah and Margaret.. They are named after our cousins... They have light greenish eyes.. So beautiful ;) Again, I can't wait to post photos someday.. It is on my list.. I just can't do it from my iPad ..

I have to share this with you guys. My rooster was with the mama hen and the chicks and he kept his head down. He'd close his eyes and let the chicks peck at his wattles. He even let them jump on his back. By the time I got my phone to take a picture there was only one chick left on him, but you can see how he kept his head down and didn't move. He really is a gentle roo.
When roosters are good, they are a GREAT asset to the flock....his chicks will most likely have good temperaments too.
Was he hand raised by you or another broody hen?

Thanks for the adorable photo!!

Ok, anyone have room for some unique cockerels? They were hatched in my home from fertile trader joes store eggs. 1 is larger than the other, though the same age. They should have amazing production genes, and are an asset to a production leghorn flock. They are free to anyone who would like them.

I have been thinking about hatching some Trader Joes store eggs (or from my local organic store). How do you know the freshest dates? At my grocery the date stamped on the end must be a 'use by' date because that date isn't here yet. How does TJ do it? What is your hatch rate?
