Arizona Chickens

Gosh, I hope it's not the man City Farm saw and reported.

That's crazy, I just saw that someone was killed by the lightrail on News 15's facebook page.

stop..the closer we get the more it looks like a homeless man sleeping.. We pass & we both say was that a person???
I say huh, well we should call it in to make sure.. I get dispatch on the line, telling her who I am & what not.. I said "I think it could be a joke"??
There was no light rail train in site, no officers.. NOTHING?? I think nothing of it. Then my son says I saw blood.. Ok, told dispatch we are turning
around to confirm. Still no sirens, NOTHING? Huh? We are thinking someone's costume feel out of the back of their truck or something?
Then after two long lights & U-Turns. We approach & sure enough the poor soul had been hit by the light rail train.. You never know from one day
to the next huh?? And yes my son was using the video on his phone... & no we will not ever post the video out of respect for him and his family..
I only say that because everyone is asking us to send them the video..

Brilliant egg storage info and article. Thanks for the replies. I'm sure I'm a ways out from my first eggs. But the more ready I am, the better!

Did they ever come? Was he alive?

SQUEAKYballs I return the compliment. You photos are wonderful and so are your birds. Is that a Dominique that I see ?

Ok so who has enough space to host a processing group. I am available to come down toward the end of the month and invite anyone else who want to add their knowledge. Also I invite you to look at the two U-tube video links that I posted a few pages back. Since i live up in the NE corner of the state and most every one else is in the valley, I would drive down.

Demosthine: I wouldn't have thought of it either, but I happened to run across an article someone had written about it, and it worked like a charm. For what its worth I only have a pressure canner as well, but it works just fine for hard cooking eggs, you just need to put them in a steamer basket so that they don't roll around.

OK!! If you remember we are chick sitting for a friend who is not sure her landlord will let her have chickens, after the fact. Well they are about 4-5mos old now and I was wondering when can we expect them to start laying, IF they are all pullets? I did put a golf ball in their nest and a few have checked it out but no eggs yet.

I get a strong feeling one, maybe two might be roo's just by their behavior ( I could be wrong because the chickens we got from our other friends were already grown and laying, so I'm not sure what type of behavior to expect). I have two that chest bump each other when let out to free range. Is that normal for a pullet or a cockerel? And the same two haven't started cockadoodldoing yet but their tone in what noise's they do make are more gutteral (does that make sense?). I guess I should ask what signs do I look for in a cockerel?
