yesterday I gave my nephew some eggs, he didn't want them because they were 2 weeks old, (I put the date on each egg). I haven't been giving him eggs because I have asked him for egg cartons, and he still thoughts them out. Between he and mom they use about 18 eggs a week. Good Grief, he knows that the fresh eggs from the store are really not that fresh. He dose give mom my eggs, at 97 she can tell if they are mine or store, and she dose want my eggs.
A good laugh never hurt anyone.........

It seems that all my chickens are taking a "vacation" from egg laying, or have been since the heat started a little more than a month ago, OR they have found a place to lay eggs that I haven't discovered yet.

Anyway, the idea of writing on the egg is interesting, is that in pencil or ink, or marking pen?

I had been saving my eggs on a counter, but now that we have two roosters, I am getting a lot of blood and other things in eggs that are a couple of weeks old, so I had to start saving them in the refrigerator, but when I tried "testing" the eggs, most quickly popped to the top of a glass of water ....

So, is it the floater eggs I want to throw out, or the one's that sink?

OK!! If you remember we are chick sitting for a friend who is not sure her landlord will let her have chickens, after the fact. Well they are about 4-5mos old now and I was wondering when can we expect them to start laying, IF they are all pullets? I did put a golf ball in their nest and a few have checked it out but no eggs yet.

I get a strong feeling one, maybe two might be roo's just by their behavior ( I could be wrong because the chickens we got from our other friends were already grown and laying, so I'm not sure what type of behavior to expect). I have two that chest bump each other when let out to free range. Is that normal for a pullet or a cockerel? And the same two haven't started cockadoodldoing yet but their tone in what noise's they do make are more gutteral (does that make sense?). I guess I should ask what signs do I look for in a cockerel?
Pullets chest bump too. Mine do it as soon as the gate opens and they get out to range for a bit. They start running around and Big Mamma Eleanor (my EE) will run to each of the other girls and chest bump them. It usually doesn't even seem like a dominance thing but more of a celebratory thing. I know she's just keeping them in line. My girls are only 3 months and have been doing it for a couple weeks. Eleanor had a sour crop then impacted crop for a few days and was sent to live in the garage during that time. When she got back the other birds tried pushing her down the pecking order by doing the chest bump thing to her and one or 2 pecks. She wasn't having that, she needed them to know she's still the boss so now she bumps them every day. I know 100% that at least 2 of my 4 chickens are pullet and they do it (I'm 90% sure the other 2 are pullets as well). I know because one is a Sex Link and the other is a Welsummer and has female coloring.

Did they ever come? Was he alive?

Once my son said he saw blood we told dispatch that we would turn around to double check.. She asked us to call back
once we got to where we saw the man. As we were approching about 5 minutes from 1ST call, the authorities were ALL 1minute
away.. We had to wait for 2 lights... That is why is took us 5 minutes.. The weirdest thing is that we kept on thinking, if
he was hit by the light rail it would of been there & stopped.. Just watched the news & at this point they believe he was crawling
threw the train when he must of fallen when it started to move& then....... Yes he was dead.. The first time we saw him we weren't sure.

All though I believe the train cops must of turn him over. He was in a different position when we first saw him. Then
we think the guys that had been checking people for their tickets walked to the end of the concrete platform a saw him..
Then turned him over to confirm.. It was only half of his body.. Shocking really can't believe it. Who knows what he was thinking..?
We hope they can find out who this person was?? Our son is going threw the EXPLORER police program. This could be a time in
his life that he will want to take that path or not?

SQUEAKYballs I return the compliment. You photos are wonderful and so are your birds. Is that a Dominique that I see ?

Ok so who has enough space to host a processing group. I am available to come down toward the end of the month and invite anyone else who want to add their knowledge. Also I invite you to look at the two U-tube video links that I posted a few pages back. Since i live up in the NE corner of the state and most every one else is in the valley, I would drive down.

My place isn't huge, but it's probably large enough depending on how many want to come. I'll have to do some cleaning, but we could do it a week from today, Saturday August 3rd or Sunday August 4th. Depending on the method for slaughtering them, I have an eyebolt in the crossbeam of my back porch or we can hang the cord from the garage door opener's bracket. I have a couple of large pots we can boil water in for de-plucking and if anyone is bringing the shrink bags for storage, too. Plenty of parking as well.

We're at 107th Avenue and Deer Valley Road, in North Peoria, so it's still a bit of a drive for some that were interested. Someone better may be closer to a central location, but my option is available. My wife has already said it's ok, too.

Hi All....
Sharing some chick pics I snapped in a hurry yesterday....
Very pleased with how my chicks are growing out despite summer heat. These are bred toward the poultry Standard of Perfection (Standard bred) quality. BIG chicks even at this age. Going to be fun to watch these grow out.

Rare Buff Rocks at 5 weeks (yellow legs)
and a Buff Orpington chick at 6 weeks (white legs).
