Ugh! It looks like Batman, our Birchen Marans, has gone broody again! She rejected the turkey poults so we broke her the hard way. She really should be named Cat Woman, the way her breeding hormones appear to be raging!

I guess it's off to the Stock Shop again for a few chicks. Unless someone West of Central Avenue has any day old chicks they need to part with. And right before I leave it of town for four days, too. Guess my wife gets to handle it...

Demo thank you for your offer to host a processing group. So far the week-end of August 3rd does not sound like good date for those who have posted interest and in fact I am available at the end of the month. What does the 24th of August look like on your calendar ?

So ive been gone for a while!! I just wanted to update!! We were able to sell my two pekins! I still have my rouen female! Right now im just trying to keep them all alive!!

Pencil seems to be the choice for dating eggs. Shipped eggs for hatching have been marked with pencil.

Oh! So I discovered that B, 1-3H pencils write well on eggs. I prefer 2H. :) H lead stays best, from what ive done.

I'm available, plan to attend, I do not have a chicken to process, despite having 3 slackers that happen to be big girls. I would love to learn. The last time I processed it was ducks, I gutted, plucked some of the feathers, then my mothers dipped them I really hot water with paraffin, the feathers and quills came off really nice. Very few pin feathers. My mom said the water Loosen the feathers, the paraffin took them off clean. If you want to keep the feathers for pillows or stuffing something (after airing) of course you can't use paraffin. That was about 45 years ago.

Thank you, that's really good news. I just laid in a good supply of 2B pencils, they also seem to work best on wood when I am drawing up a new design on a sign.
