Arizona Chickens

Shade, shade, shade. Lots of water, and an occasional frozen treat to peck at. But mostly shade and water.

I looked at your page---what is Slanina? Your last name? ANywhoo, you may want to enclose them in a run, or else your chickens may be named "coyote treat" and "squeaky toy".

I am to far away to go get those chickens down south...I would love to have all of them, OH well....I will find others I am sure

Today I have been getting together all of the stuff to go sell some chickens at a place that is like a flea market...

Making a list and checking it twice, I want to have everything that I need. I have a pack and play for displaying chicks(freshly washed--today is so nice out), waterers and feeders, boxes for people to take home chicks in, money for change, paper and pens, business cards, screens to put up on the pack and play to block wind, to keep things warm.

So am I missing anything??

The chicks.

LOL!!!

Well they can't be packed up until last..I even have the carrier for transport clean...This isn't happening until Friday but I do better if I have everything in the car except the chicks on Thursday night...I am just really excited that I have enough to "go out and sell them" I just want it to go well and I know that I will forget something

& Welcome to the AZ thread!

As Laree said, they need shade and water. They should ALWAYS have access to good shade and ALWAYS have water. There is other stuff you can do, but these are the critical pieces.

Seriously? Wow. I would rather my pet birds go to someone here rather than some random person. Oh well each to their own I guess

NO not really. This is my fault. I talked to the lady--who is VERY nice, BTW---and told her I saw the listing on BYC. She thought I meant "I posted your email and phone # on BYC." Long story.

Anyway, she is VERY nice, and is not interested in splitting up her flock. SHe doesn't care if the buyer does--but doesnt have time to piecemeal it out a few birds at a time.

Ohhhh I totally misunderstood. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I really though someone was being that big of a you know what LOL

So ArizonaNessa you have all that room why don't you take the 60 banties (is that a word?) Its not like you are holding any other birds for anyone else

Shaun Those birds I really didn't think some of them were going to make it after I spent some time with them. I went and ground 25 pounds of calf-manna and mixed it heavy in the feed that "the owner" wants them to eat. I gave them more room than they could imagine in their little bird minds and certainly way more than they ever had. Even though it's only been a little while I have seen a vast improvement in them. It's almost like they were depressed not sick but sad. They can run now, fly a little, and oh my word they love taking dust baths. I am just glad that I could do it. I did leave one behind that I was supposed to take with this group because it was not well. That was part of my deal that I could refuse anything sickly. I am not going to hurt my own to save someone else's problem. I think I am going to end up with some buff orps from the same owner here in the next few days

It's okay I have the bins for them and if I get them now rather than a month from now they will still be strong. I tried to take some pics of them but they just won't be still. I will try again another time.

As for the banties in the ad~ I would take them in a hot second but I can't afford to spend that right now.

As for my own birds, I don't know what hubby did but Kevin is still with us. I think she hurt her neck or something but it was horrible to see. I thought hubby would cull her because I couldn't deal with it but he didn't and she's back to eating and loving solar chicken. I think I am just getting too soft hearted with some of this. The broodies are being broody and I have a few older girls that I think I am going to replace. They are pushing 6 years old. My little buff orpington pullets up front are doing wonderful. The pic below is of my own buff orpingtons pullets. The one in the middle I am thinking is the roo of the bunch. I usually get one in every order.

Edit: If anyone is wondering, the refugee birds are no where near my birds. Also if anyone out there has pigeons and is interested in giving a very young King pigeon (I think that is what they are called) a good home then please PM me for details. Yes she/he is free but I just don't have pigeon knowledge or the time to devote to her/him. I feel like I am neglecting the bird when all I do is feed it. I can't turn it loose it will end up hawk food since it is solid white with red feet.

That is so cool that you are doing that!!

Do you have room if someone else <cough> funded the $60 plus 1-2 bags of feed? Just curious. That is also assuming that quite a few people here would be interested in some of these birds

no promises right now just curious.

I won't have much room left after I get the other birds that are coming. I wish but I can't. Here is somewhat of a decent pic of some of the refugee chickens feeding. Yes the little bitty one is inside the feeder. She just does that cause they push her around LOL
