Arizona Chickens

Virtual hugs with happy thoughts attached. It sounds like all of the coincidental illness/issues are striking at the same time and your chickens down and out. Which sucks because there ins't a magic wand answer! Aren't mites able to transfer from several avian species? If that's true then i'd say you have an uninvited avian hopping about the yard who left some buddies behind. If you have any of these maybe DE the areas when the visitors like to perch or sit. Trees too. Bumble foots recovery time probably won't be sped up anymore, your already doing what you can and with other illnesses present too. ARG! I know you feeding yogurt for probiotics (sp?) but maybe try adding/feeding Benebac? I use it when I have to give a heavy or harsh medication to my animals. As far as the treatment goes, any medication may be hard on them since they are dealing with other issues too. Maybe giving half a dose or skipping every other day would be productive but not harmful? You can also try mixing Pedialyte into their water. I've used with a vast variety of animals and it perks them up just enough to eat and drink their fill. VetRx is a common product and can temporarily alleviate breathing troubles, rosemary oil is what gives it that kicker I think. Rub a tiny bit on their beaks and where they sleep? It's not harmful so it's worth a shot. Echinacea is another great treatment for immunity. I searched around and found a few sites saying positive things in regards of chicken treatment. I've used infant rice cereal and baby foods when I was very desperate to get some to eat. I would pay attention to what the ingredients are as I don't know what can harm chickens.

This is all I can pull out of my bum right now but I'll be thinking about you and your chickas all day.

I might be able to come back with something better. Until then I hope they pull threw and that you don't wear yourself out anymore. They are chickens after all and no matter how hard you try some just won't make it. I do think you should try with this one because again, it all sounds like unlucky timing.

EDIT: Ka-POW! I totaly forgot I have a Vet appointment today. My Vet rocks my socks so I'm sure he might have some great ideas. I'll ask him while i'm there.
Actually if you want I have his clinics number? Any of the Vets may be able to help you over the phone.

Double Edit: I have no idea if this will cheer you up (prolly not) but the song is cute and it's yummy?

Two things first I'm jealous that you have a flame thrower and when the zombies come I'll be glad to know you have it. And second I just made my waxing and tanning appointment thanks for reminding me.

Sounds to me like you have a handle on the chook ailments other than the overwhelmed part, hang in there.

RRR- What are the following? Benebac VetRx
I assume Pedialyte is a uick nutrient pick up - right?
What it the Rosemary for? Which item are you suggesting can be rubbed on the beak? When you give echinacea do you use powdered root and sprinkle in food?
-Trying to learn a few things...

for such a trying chicken time...and much admiration for all you are doing for you sweet ones. So sorry you lost one.

hello, i just saw this AZ thread and thought i would jump in and disturb the peace to introduce myself. i haven't had a chance to go back to see what you all are up to, except that someone is overloaded with rescue chickens? wow.

i am in north phoenix and just became an addict(of chickens, obviously). i have six 4 week old hopefully all girlies in the garage just waiting to go out in their new coop. i will be adding 2 more in 2 weeks when my friend is ready to give up her chicks to me, hopefully. then we'll call it good as i will be out of space. i have no idea what i am doing, but i am learning and my kids LOVE this. my husband tolerates it but i catch him holding a chick every now and then(and he likes it). any info anyone can give me about raising chickens in phoenix would be super. i have 2 EE, 2RIR, 1 BO and 1BR, plus 2 light brahma on the way, hopefully.

thanks,
noel
