Arizona Chickens

That does sound wonderful. Does it keep it's leaves year round? Would it grow down here at lower elevations? I wish I had heard of this a couple weeks ago, we made a "potting shed" from scraps of wrought iron salvaged from my back patio demolition and covered with concrete re-mesh. We planted Tangerine Beauty Crossvines to grow over it. It grows fast and looks good with beautiful flowers, but doesn't have much of an aroma.
My report on backyard improvements here in the NE AZ !! Been waiting to see how many plants are alive after the winter. Three blueberry bushes, two elderberry bushes and one boysenberry vine are thriving but the red raspberry looks like a "quiter" For vines I have one well established and vigorous tiny white flowered vine on the neighbor's fence side. Newer vines are a well established white honeysuckle and a newly started orange trumpet vine, just a baby at this point. Four new HOP vines in large planters with bottoms cut out are just beginning to grow. I wanted them protected from the birds who are prone to escape from their large run. Also I still need to establish an arbor for them. Now I need a Cecile Brunner rose vine OH Dear when will it stop.

Don't give up on the raspberry. They die off in the winter and you should cut the dead stalks off. It should cone back.

Hmmm...not sure if it ever stops.

I hope the red raspberry is still in its winter slumber.

My "source" at channel 9 says they will be at the city council meeting on Tuesday. I guess the urban farming community DOES have a voice.
They are trying to say on the Tucson CLUCKS on FB is.......

Just heard something on NPR about a city council meeting on Tuesday regarding Urban Ag. Should we all plan to come to this meeting and perhaps speak?

  • Bernadette, please read below. It's NOT city council, it's a public info meeting to discuss proposed urban ag zoning changes. Several steps to go before it reaches council. There's a pre-meeting Saturday near Fourth Avenue. Again, details below or perhaps someone can repost. Thanks.

  • YES! This is the meeting I have been referring to for several months now! It is not a public hearing -- it is more of an informational meeting and a facilitated conversation so the city staff can gather information about community support for local
small scale food production. There are many folks opposed for a variety of reasons and they will be out in force on Tuesday -- so come out and participate! Let the city know how you feel!

I just wanted to share since we are all wanting the same results.

They also have an article that lists these reasons AGAINST in the star

Flies in the compost pile.
Raccoons in the hen house.
Traffic. Litter. Noise.
This is what some Tucsonans are afraid of.
Elena Acoba explains why — in Sunday's Star.

I will cannot find the article but I will try.
