Arizona Chickens

Oh MY Gosh. Some of the chickens coops I see on here...I would like to move in ! Lol.
My girls would bethe poor relations, I guess. They roost in a converted play house that my mom found at a yard sale. Bless her soul, my mom was resourceful. That playhouse was used for my kids and when she passed away,I drug it home and my grandkids played in it. Then I found a newer playhouse (at a yard sale), and the old one was repurposed as a chicken coup. I put it up on cinderblocks and a wooden pallet, with a wire floor. I ran a light to it when the chicks were still little. My grandkids think its great that the chickens live in their old house.

Thats ok. The chickens don't care and I bet you spent way less $$ than I did.

The boiled linseed oil can be used on wood stocks, but it is a PITA. A lot of it sold for stocks has driers added, which can ease the pain somewhat. For metal I usually parkerize or paint with DuraCoat, the various bluing methods are slower, more work intensive, and don't protect the metal as well. Hopefully, I will never sell another rifle. Do a web search for Ed's Red for the formula, which is easy to make with common ingredients, be sure to use the lanolin (optional), but the lanolin really helps with long term rust protection.

Nine of us kids and we all knew to never touch Dad's guns without permission. All of my other siblings are crack shots. Me..not quite. So then I marry a man in law enforcement. And my kids... Law enforcement and military. So there are a few guns in this house.
Anyway,tonight at dinner I ask, nonchalantly, .. "hey,what kind of gun oil y'all use?".
The answer? "Mom you leaving Dad?"
Long story short, "Winchester Gun Oil." And I had some explaining to do.

Yes. I know it's not a very good pic, and poor light and all that, but check out the Remmy 700. It has a pretty cool desert camo paint job. I will take a better pic tomorrow with my real camera.

I only keep one rifle and one pistol loaded.....for predators, of course. Even so, when anybody wants to look at one, I clear the action before handing it over, even though I know it's not loaded. One of my worst moments was when I let a buddy check out an 1891 Argentine Engineers carbine. This thing has an original leather sling, with silver conchos for buttons, and a silver buckle. He dry fired it, and broke the firing pin. That was about 9 years ago, and I still have not found a replacement firing pin for it.

ok so I need HELP  my son found a little quail in the chicken coop this am. the parents were gone and it is newly hatched. I brought it in and made it a little covey with dirt, pine shavings, some tree limbs some hay in the little house i put in and a lid with water and a lid with fermented chick starter. anyone have any idea what else i need to do? do is need friends? I will get pics later. 
any info is appreciated. 

The baby quail needs companions to survive. Look up wildlife rahabilitation , maybe there is somebody near you. I used to transport for "Wildthings" years ago, and the lady who ran the place told me the number one thing that killed off baby quail was being solo. Also, people would wait too long to get them to a rehaber.
Baby quail sure are cute though. I would be sorely tempted to keep it.

This is the formula for Ed's Red and how to mix it. If you use all the ingredients as listed, you can make it for about $20 per gallon. Compare that to the gun shop solvents at $6-$8 per 4 ounce bottle, and you can see why I use this!

Lve to hear about repurposed items.. Nothing should have to go into a land fill.. Yeah that chicken coop was beautiful glad to see it ..
