Arizona Chickens

Hi friends! After a bobcat decimated our flock last year we haven't owned chickens. My daughter is now involved in her high school FFA and she's looking for a show quality birds for the fair. We are most interested in Cream Legbar, Orpingtons, or Wyandottes, but will consider other breeds. Thanks!

I have show quality Silkies, Naked Neck Silkies (Showgirls) and Wheaten Americaunas. I should have chicks from some of them in a few weeks.

My sister has Delawares and they are her favorites. They lay right though molting and winter.

So what breed of chicken are these Trader Joe's chicks? They are from white eggs? Are they duel purpose? I'd hate to raise roos and find they have no meat on their carcass.

Sill, They are from white eggs, so definitely not duel purpose. I had one come out with black spots so I'm pretty sure it was a California White. I also had some hatch without no spots which can happen with California whites. I ended up with 5 cockerels and 1 pullet who is the sweetest thing ever. Shes about 10 weeks old.

Well my broody and her clutch are moved to her own pen. She clucked at me a bit then went right into her broody nest wiggled the eggs around and promptly sat down. I checked on her this morning and she looks like she is happy. The broody nest is large enough for me to put a small glass of water and ice close to her. I worry about her not getting enough water in the heat - so I've put together a little electrolyte water for her - much lighter than the other girls are getting in their water. Now the waiting begins again. AND I'm much more calm about whether chicks will be falling on their heads!!

Good luck! Whenever I move a broody I always worry that she'll get off the nest and not return the the right spot. Sometimes they remember where they got off the eggs and sometimes they go back to their old spot.

Hey Everybody. I'm officially an East Sider now. FAR East Sider in San Tan Valley.

All moved in and unpacking now. Hope everyone's well.

Congratulations on the move Dave! Moving is such a stressful thing to do. I hope your new place starts feeling like home real soon.

thank you. The DW has been decorating a bit and unpacking. I'm more concerned about my outside stuff. Toolbox and things won't roll around because it's all dirt. Toolbox just sinks from the weight. Too hot to even touch the handles during the day.

Can't the heat be over already?

My sympathies. I am still in the process of moving, one pickup load at a time. At least my work toolbox is still at work, it is over 3000 lbs., but I think I have at least as many tools at home. They are just scattered everywhere!
