Arizona Chickens

Morning fellow Zonies....... Just wanted to check in, still having trouble receiving notices but occasionally they pop up. So sorry to hear about the recent losses that a few folks had, I know how difficult it can be to lose your favorites.

Lets see, here we've just been dealing with the heat, like everyone else. My plans are to run the line sprinklers down the center aisle (walkway) since my runs are all kind spaced apart (cant use just one mister). Has anyone used PVC for this? Last week I made a water powered T-Post driver out of PVC, so I'm kinda on a "PVC kick" .. I just worry that the hose will burst or something when I'm gone so I think I'll look into those timers too. I set up a Timer-Feeder for the chooks so 6am rolls around and boom, there's your food girls

One of the hens is broody again, trying to break her of that....Sold a few more Cochin pullets this weekend so I think I'm down to the "keepers", as least for a while. I have pheasant chicks coming out of my ears though.

On a brief non chicken related note, we got a new puppy this weekend

He is the cutest thing, but he is totally hearing impaired so training will be fun

Enjoy your week everyone!

How do I make one of these?

I should have said "I set it up after ordering online"

Its one of those cat/pet feeders that have timed feeding. They do not hold much feed, but its enough to keep the cluckin down until I can get out there and feed the rest of the birds...

Hmm. The wild bird love to eat my the food I put out. I am always thinking I put out too much, but want the chickens to have what they need when I am gone all day. I wonder if I could utilize something like this. I would probably need several for my current group of hungry munchkins. I might have to check that out though.

Could you offer to help trim the turkeys flight feathers to keep it in her yard?

Apparently I'm not cut out to be a bird mom. The little doves were doing so good, they doubled in size and were starting to peep when I would pick up their nest bowl to feed them. They were dead this morning when I got up to feed them. So we burried them in the chicken cemetary. I felt bad for them.

If I catch that darn turkey, I am eating it.

Actually, I am a little afraid I will go over there, and she'll tell me something like, "All my birds have been sick, poor babies. I just had to let them out of the coop, they looked so miserable. I had a few die last week, but since they've gotten better."

Because then I would go to jail.

True, maybe the turkey could be trapped or something if it keeps coming over. I trapped 2 peacocks with a huge dog crate that way

Tough situation, I feel for you on that one..

I have had the digital one and the manual one that you turn like the OLD timers my mom had for timeouts when i was a kid (sorry flashback) and the manual one i still have 4 years later. The digital one croaked about a year into my work load. I use them multiple times a day (always watering something) so if you can find the ones that you just turn the side and let it count down I would suggest it. It sucks when your timer doesn't turn off the water after you go to bed LOL.

If you find any let me know where. I got mine years ago at Lowes but i can now only find the darn digital ones.

Shaun

They have the manual one at Lowe's too. It was $15. The problem with that one is that you have to be there to turn it on. It'll turn itself off, but not on.
If you are gone all day and want the misters to come on in the afternoon, you need the digital one.

GOOD POINT

forgot about that!

Yep. Better stay away. You have such cute sons who need their momma!

It does sound like a hard situation.
